75 Sportster rebuild, worth the money?

If you know the person then maybe he'll give you some time to think about it. With that I'd start looking into parts availability. You said it needs a front wheel and I can see in the photo that it had the aluminum spoke wheels, which are hard to find in good shape. Other than the front wheel it looks to be mostly there in the photos.
I your buying it to build a collection it's a great find and buy. If your looking to make a buck then pass and let someone buy it that collects them. Maybe a forum member.

Just saying - if you OK with a wrench or two and not frightened to spend some cash / use fleabay etc etc , you could get it running real quick, as a cash maker y'all are wasting your time $4000 ish if its a stock runner. You could of course do a ground up rebuild on it and take it out only once in a while for a boneshaking vibrating ride (on my old ironhead my vision kinda dissappears at 40mph). If I was buying it I would look to pay around $700/$800 for it - you are into around another $1k to get it on the road, and thats before you make it pretty.
