Street Glide for a RK Classic or Softail Deluxe?
Thinking of trading or selling my Street Glide for a Road King Classic or Softail Deluxe. I just like having the option to take the windshield off. Stereo isn't critical as I'm not doing alot of long distance.
Like the option of storing stuff in the saddlebags on my Street Glide and a RK Classic, don't want to add bags on the Deluxe (I like the looks without any) so I'd put a sissybar so I can put a bag on the back when I need to.
Just a thought right now. Like to hear your opinions out there...

Tough subject!
It's a matter of your personal taste. Personally I'd never buy a DeLuxe..I find it a "fake" old bike.
I have a RK Custom with a detachable fairing (as the electra one) I use in winter or in very long trips. It goes on and off in just one minute!
I had replaced the stock saddlebags with a pair of used one from an Electra Std. They are bigger than the RK Custom ones and I find'em very comfortable.
..and next year I'm gonna get a Street Glide...

I have an 06 RK Classic. Absolutely enjoy riding this bike. Boy, it just eats up the miles. I don't know about the SG's saddle but the RK stock saddle sucks so aftermarket is a must. I went with the corbin classic and am very happy.
One factor that swayed me into the RK was the detachable shield. After putting 6k miles on her I find that more times than not I keep it on.
Good luck in your decision.

I personally think the Road King is the nicest looking bike Harley makes. That being said I have never owned one. After years of riding rigid ironheads, shovels and then an evo fatty, I broke down in 2003 and bought a E.G. standard. Loved the bike but two years later I seen a Deluxe that looked identical to my old shovel and on a whim sold the standard and bought the Deluxe. Well it wasn't long and the Deluxe started morphing into a full fledged touring bike with hard bags and a full fairing with radio without the comfy ride. Finally I decided this is crazy and just sold the Deluxe and bought an 07 ultra. My point in this long winded post is buy the bike for what type of riding you do. A king or a heritage softail sounds to me like the deal for you as it will give you the option of bags / no bags and windshield / no windshield . just my two

Suggest you take a Softail Deluxe, or any softail model for a test drive first. That should help you make your decision.

Thanks all, the other model I like is the Heritage Softail but they don't make them anymore. They have the Heritage Softail Classic. 2006 they had both on their website.

The softail deluxe is a completly differant (smaller) bike than the touring bikes. The RKC, with bags, w/s, spokes, wide whites and cruise control all as standard equipment is hard to beat for the price. And there's the "look".......

I own a Deluxe...I just love the look and simplicity of a Softail frame. But, the bike is not a good value. I had to buy bags, windshield and the crash bar. The bags for the Deluxe are small...they will not hold a helmet or a leather jacket.
The Road King is the best value in the HD lineup IMHO. Pick your flavor (classic, standard or custom) and never look back. For one bike, they are hard to beat. Put the shield on and your ready to tour. Take it off and your ready to cruise. The Classic just oozes class with the WWW, metal emblems, tooled leather, huge nacelle. It also comes with cruise control. IMHO, for someone who only wants to own one bike, the Road Kings are hard to beat.

.......or will there? I'm thinking they dropped the Custom to make room for a new model RK. Hmmm... a detach fairing would be real popular....maybe a Street-King? or RK Deluxe? (purely speculation....you heard it here first )

well one things for sure.....we will all know in a few weeks. A 96" engine that runs as good as the 88" would be real nice.

That would be too cool....It would be a big seller too. While they are at it, how about 17" wheels like the CVO. They will probably bring the bike back in 09, after the CVO run is over.

Was at dealer, there were only five FLHX in the state, and the dealers were giving them up. So keep that in mind if you trade in or sell.
