Excessive Oil Consumption?

Personally, I don't think that 4,000 miles per quart is excessive oil consumption, If you can get them to install the updated oil seals that would be fine.

Air cooled engines will normally consume some oil.

If it were me (and I am not recommending you do this), it would be a 1-1.5 quarts low when I brought it back after 500 miles. This would insure they correct the leaking valve seals.

My shovelheads don't use that much oil in 4000 miles. They don't even leak that much in 4000 miles


IMO, it does not mater how much oil the engine consumes, the valve seals should not leak. If they leak, it is a problem and it has a fix.

My old 05 burned a qt every 1000 miles from new. Dealer replaced the valve guide seals because it was an early model with the old style seals. Well a couple of thousand miles and a couple of quarts later they had to replace the rings on the front cylinder and hone the cylinder. The rings had the end gaps lines up. After that the oil level was always still full when I changed it every 5 thousand miles.

Doood, I was totally sucked in to this one...Doh! I have an 05 that had not been updated and used 1qt per thousand. I replaced the heads with CNC'd ones from AMS. The MOCO stopped reimbursing dealers for this several years ago....
