My new ride is.....
not a Harley. BMW GS-650 Dakar. This thing is a blast to ride. Has ABS, heated grips, and will cruise at 80 mph with less vibration than my softail. Oh, and it gets 60 mpg, and can tackle all but extreme off-road. No, it doesn't have the cool factor of a Harley but you can't beat BMW motorcycles for value and engineering.

I have looked at them. Someday when I have to much money, I will have a couple more HDs and couple BMWs.

The more i look at BMW bikes, the more i like em. I'll probably move up to a 1200 model in a couple of years. I bought this through a BMW dealership. The owner was in his 50's and was also a big Harley guy. Said he had a 2003 softail with 7k miles and an 05 BMW with 50k. Most of the guys that own these bikes put some serious miles on them. As long as i can ride, i will always have a Harley in my garage, but i'm seriously looking at BMW for touring. I bought the 650 mostly just for commuting back and forth to work - 60mpg and with the ABS i can safely ride it thru the winter.

Very cool bike. I would like to have one of those 1200GT. Honestly have not wanted to go to the dealer to check them out for fear I would come home with one. Fear becasue I really don't need to be spending the bucks on a second scoot right now.

Very nice bike. A guy at work just got a new 650GS (black) with the aluminum bags. The Dakar models are very cool looking. Lots of adventure riders around here in Atlanta but the bikes look like they've never seen a trail. Have fun with it and be careful.

Good choice. I've been looking at those for a year now with commuting in mind. Very soon I'll be in the position to buy one and give my 07 FLHT w/17K on it some well deserved rest during the week.

Been interested in the RT for comuting, but a tour pak on it. I need alot of storage for work. Lunch, tools, clothes, hard hat.
Someday maybe get one of the enduros for taking to camp, and mild off road. Probably more logging roads.

I rode BMW's for years. They are great bikes. But, they are different than a Harley. For lots of miles they are hard to beat but they don't have the soul a Harley has. I put a bunch of miles on an old RT100 the Dakar is cool in it's own rights.

BMW makes some fairly large hard saddlebags and tour paks for each model. Some are expandable and will fit a lot of crap - probably more than your Harley.

Just on there website they don't have the one with big wing, not really fairing. 1200 rgt ors something. Saw one at work. Liked it cause didn't look like a crotch rocket with bags. Though the bags looked kinda small.
Only thing is wish could see the engine more. I could picking one up used. Would like to get a bike, that I don't have to sink money into the engine. See next fall, get one with heated seats and grips, could justify for commuting.
THough I got to admit, I don't want to learn how to work on another bike. But I guess eventually you got to.

I like it; I've been looking at these for a while too. No doubt well engineered. However, I just noticed that these guys are running 11.5:1 compression. How well does it run on pump gasoline?

I'd like to take a BMW for a ride..but am afraid my "log wagon" wouldn't feel so good afterwards. That bike would be a blast to ride for sure. It is amazing how fast you can get launched over the handlebars on a dirt bike when you hit the front brake too hard......ask me how I know.
