BVBOB(forum member)western WI. I have seen him tune bikes (SERT and Twins Scan) after they were dynoed and they run better.

Hey DOC, when is HDMD Tuning Center LLC coming to north VA to train somebody on a DynoJet?
So far, your recommendation closest Fredericksburg, VA has been Battlefield Harley Davidson in central Pa (from here, 130 miles through DC traffic )
BTW, who's the star tuner there?
Thanks!

Send me the shops name and zip code thats near you and I will send them a brochure from HDMD Tuning Center.....we'll see if they are intrested in the Training.

Mike was the guy at Battlefield Harley but I believe he is the Service Mgr now, it's been at least two years since I was there and I haven't heard from them in that long.
I know what you mean about the DC traffic.....my Sister lives in that area!!

They kept the bike for a day and a half, ran it 180 miles on the dyno, and charged me $300. Not impressed at all, and I went back to the stock map within a month.

Looking for a tuner in Upstate SC who knows how to work with SERT. Recommendations appreciated.

I PMed you for more information on this situation but I guess you don't want to answer me so I have to asked you this on your post . Are you experiencing the hesitation the Fly By Wire bikes are giving us 90% of the time after engine mods and tune are completed?
When you say marginal gains where made...what are your mods? Did the bike run smoother or was it all about HP numbers to you and not drive ability? I ask these questions because I've known Eddie for many years and I know he does good work, if he did mess up your tune I want to confront him with your concerns but I have to have some ammunition not just a angry customers view.

alibiforyou is an unknown quantity at this point
Mountainman--Joe at www.joescyclerepair.com tuned my 08 fly by wire. First as a 103 and then as a 117. There is no issues like that. i will tell you that 2 other tuners tried to tune it when i first did the 103 kit....it ran like crap. The tuner has to be able to understand the FBY and the sert issues. You may want to give joe a call.

Thanks for the input, guys. HDMD88, here are the numbers (I'll be glad to email you the dyno report if you like)

96 cid
SE stage 1
V&H 2-1
SERT

Base run max: 67.47hp, 82,11 torque
Best dyno run: 72.19hp, 84,64 torque

For comparison, my 04 Road King (injection) with 95 cid, 203 cams, SE high-flow air filter and SE 2-1 exhaust produced 80.06hp and 90.12 torque after being tuned by American Eagle H-D in Corinth, Tx.

With the map the dealership provided I noticed no hesitation in the throttle response, it was only after the dyno tune that this started to occur, on cold starts particularly (felt like a carbureted motor that hadn't been warmed up properly). I am interested in real world performance and drivability first and foremost so when I had the motor nearly stall on me several times, that could easily have resulted in a dropped bike. So I had the dealer (which is not H-D of Greenville) put the first map back in. Now everything is back to where it was and there's no hesitation at all.

Planning to have a 103 build done on the bike in the next couple of months which is really why I'm inquiring about good tuners in my area.

I would love to see the graph of the tune MM.....my email is hdmd88@yahoo.com.
First off let me say the numbers you got on the '08 are right in the ball park for the mods you have. I believe it is unfair to expect the numbers you got from the RK with a set of 203 cams installed compared to the stock cams of the '08. I consistently get 84 hp and 95 tq with a small Andrews 26 cam in the 96'' motors and I'm sure you would be there also with your build had you installed a 203 or 26 cam.
The hesitation from the FlyByWire throttle body is something I see alot of following modifications and tuning....it's not a good thing and I agree with you it is dangerous to say the least. Harley has known about this issue for a while now and one of the things, that where sent out in a bulletin, to remedy this was to cycle the ign switch 3 times with a 5~6 second pause between cycles....this worked when I did it but it had to be repeated when the bike was off for a length of time. As a tuner I truly believe we should have control over the sensors and servo motor on the TB when we use the SERT but we don't, hopefully that will be an option in the near future. I have found that playing with the VE tables in the 3%tp ~4%tp along with the idle position at 5%tp I was able to eliminate 90% of this lag time we are seeing in the FBW with Mods.
Every time I do a tune with a SERT there is a new situation that pops up that I learn from and I've been tuning and teaching the SERT for quite a while now so it is a on going process to say the least. I said that to say this, I know Eddie is a good SERT tuner, does he know it all.....of course not, did he let the bike go out the door with a problem.....it looks as if he did, but this doesn't make him a bad tuner. I will bring this to his attention so it won't happen again and I truly believe you should bring it to his attention also.... people learn from their mistakes and he will learn from this one which I grant you he will grow from.
I agree with you that the lag problem was in your tune other wise it wouldn't have gone away with the other down load you had installed, but again that problem has proven to be in the 3%~5% throttle position not through out the complete tune.
Thanks for the information MM and I will address this with Eddie, hopefully you guys will talk and reach some kind of compensation for your grief and inconvenience.
Thanks
Doc
