Just for fun but if you took all these motors with different strokes and bores.Installed performance heads and cams for the particular size build.Which size motor would win in the quarter mile?Do not care about the highest dyno but which motor in real time runs the best 1/4 mile?

You need more variables, like what kind of bike would you put these into??? the weight of bike would need to be known. What kind of cam used would have to be known also.Ex. You can't take a touring bike, put in a early intake closing cam, and wack the throttle. The belt will break!!! So you have to introduce more variables into this equation.Cam & type of bike used must be the same for all motors!!!!!

The biggest motor will kick ass on a level playing field. Their really is no replacement for displacement. Not that smaller motors cant be fast too but bigger is better for ultimate performance.

You also want something that will stay hooked up to the pavement.

A lot of what any performance bike is capable of is the rider. Some bikers are much better racers than others.Big inch is always a good way to get some serious grunt. What you may lose on the starting line (lack of traction),you should be able to run em down with bigger cubes.I for one have never been really big on buzzing my Harleys so tight parts loosen.Never forget, the big motors can also be twisted real tight. When in a close street race sometimes you have no choice.

I think Todd is talking about an "all things being equal" scenario. Except the displacement, obviously.

That is exactly what I'm saying. There are some really bright people on this forum and just wanted to hear there personal feedback. It's alot of fun just talking than spending in these rough times.Plan on increasing engine size in the near future but not until the stock market stops falling.

03fxdl's all-bore 107 runs 10s. I was at a strip this summer where a guy on a 131 ran a best of 11.3. Like someone said, too many variables - even ruling out rider.
So this might be an interesting thread...

I'll guess the biggest bore shorter stroke combo.
Strokers win tractor pulls
Big Hp, Fast Revving wins in the 1/4
The pro stockers in the 7's run more bore than stroke. So out of your choices, I'd build a big bore-short stroke 131"

A bagger might as well be a tractor. the all bore 114" would wind up the quickest(all things being equal), but it would need a lightweight on a light bike with this engine, to do any good.

What some of you seem to forget,is the real world street situations.Over the years I have tried every concievable combination. The bottom line is off idle torque or the roll-on torque hit.Believe what you want,or better yet come play with me.You need the torque to build as fast as it can. Most all of us very seldom run our bikes at the drag strip,Oh, it's great to brag about how quick they 1/4 mile, but take that same bike for a day cruise then brag.Just trying to compare apples for apples.

at a recent drag bike event, the top two street legal categories, Outlaw Street and Hot Street were won by a OS bike running a 140" ran a 9.20 secs and a HS bike was running 9.60 secs with a 120". I know 140" is the cu. in. limit by the rules in Outlaw Street and the displacment limit in Hot Street is 124".
Displacment wins, all else being equal.

However, all is never equal. When I'm out riding, the first question guys ask is "what size motor you got?", Even though cam, compression, heads, build, and tune will be the great equalizer. Not to mention weight, chasis design, and rider skill.
It's like Pep Boys selling a 1,500 crate 350 ci engine and a 60,000 Nascar 350 ci engine. Both have the same cubes right?
For example, the worlds quickest street Harley (8.5 sec. quarter mile by Andy Simon) is a 126" engine (even though he could have gone bigger cubes but that would have been more weight) but take a look at the rest of the engine......talk about bad ass! Obviously this is an extreme example but just making my point
