My New 103 Build...Not so happy!!!!!!!

Hi guys,

just finished to dyno my 08 FLHX with custom map on the following build:

103" bore with flat wiseco pistons
Short block Charlie (SBC) ported Heads, 10.1:1 compression
Andrews 54 cams
SE Air breather
Rineharts True Duals
SE Super tuner
30 teeth pulley

See attached Dyno...103 lbs of Torque and 94 Hp!!!

I am not too concerned about the torque.. I know that if I had used 2 into 1 I would probably be in the 110/113 lbs which is what is expected from this build. My problem is the power.. 94 Hp seems way below what it should be!!!

My old 2001 FLHT with 95 " build, same identical heads, andrews 37, Mikuni 42 and Rinehart 2 into 1 made 110/ 110!!! A bullet!!

Does anybody have any idea of why such low HP????

Thanks

Tiziano

Everyone I talk to wants me to go 2 into 1. I know from my dyno report I lost about 10t and 10hp when in went with the big radius. I still have enough power to put my apes in my lap.

i dont think even with a 2into1 you will pick up 10/10.. who did the tune. i have herd that the new super tuner is not as good as the old sert.
are you sure the compression is correct??
did you check for sumping????
or maybe those are the real #
i cant see no dyno.

The tune was done by the local HD dealer, they seem to know what they are doing..The curves are nice and smooth, surprisingly enough, even with the true duals, the torque curve is very nice staying above 100 lbs from 3200rpm to 4500rpm. I do not think that if I swittch to a 2 into 1 I will get the Hp I am looking for..Perhaps the cams?? I need your help..

Dyno's don't seem to read the same even when there the same make and model. Some high, some low...

Build/tune

This seems to be quite a topic usually.
As I have said before, if in fact, it was a carbed build, something that most folks understand, there would be no discussion.
Could be the build, could be the tune.

tiziano, I suspect the tune. With you being from Fl., I'm surprised you didn't have John Sachs do the heads and the tune. You may in the future let him have a go at the tuning. Or look up Doc, he's in Fl. (used to post here) he a really good tuner also.

Part of your problem might be an optomistic comparison. Most 95/98's dont get there with those parts.

ndmp40,

i thought about that too..My old bike was the most powerful HD I have ever ridden....I guess I was hoping to get there or close to it with my new one..As far as tuning goes..I think these guys did a pretty good job, if you see the initial curves, they were all crooked when the bike came in, they made it nicely and smooth across the band... All I need is 10 more ponies on the top hand!!!!

yea they did a pretty good job for all 7 pulls they did ...yea i know i took some heat for this comment on another thread about dyo operators shutting down the computer and making runs that are not recorded but i highly doubt that in 7 runs its tuned but what do i know.....

All of those "Dyno" machines are different. "Numbers" vary so much depending on temperature, altitude, humidity and the model number of the DynoJet. What is the "seat of the pants" feel? I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers. JMO.

I suspect your 2001 wasn't actually making 110/110. I know a lot of really well built 95's with the 37 cam that have had some really good attention to the details and very, very, very few break 100hp on a legit dyno.

Now, who built this 103?

There are a LOT of details in your build that make or break if you get 94 hp or 103hp. The Andrews 54 cam is a "mild" cam with a 42* IVC and 0.555" lift. Do you actually know through measurement that you are getting the compression you think? Did the cam get degreed in or checked? I notice there was zero intake/t.b. work done. What are the particulars on the SBC heads? What is the volume of the combustion chamber? What was the deck height measurement?

The true duals are not helping your cause either, especially on the bottom end torque build which helps set the stage for the top end charge.

And as others have mentioned, I would doubt that the tune is complete.

Don't take any of this the wrong way please, just trying to help you get to the bottom of the issue so you can know the truth.

all the best!
