Damn Larry, you are having a hard time with dealers. Could you be relating a bad attitude when you go in? Have dealt with many dealers for about 45 years and I have never had the problems that you are telling us.. Wassup?

Please note: Larry is in New York, I lived in New York, other than a dealer I have used in Corning, the rest I encountered in New York were not friendly at all, and seemed bothered that you were there. Now I am back in PA, I have a great network of dealers to work with. Horsepower Harley Davidson in Williamsport is great!

I have a similar situation in Central Maine. Dealer has a care less attitude about customer service, they have people behind the parts counter that don't know anything about the inside of these engines, so parts ordering is frustrating. Service department is a joke. I ordered an HD tool over the phone and after a week of waiting, I called for an update on my order, and come to find out, it never got ordered, meanwhile my bike sits in my garage with the motor tore apart, so I feel your pain. To give credit where its due, I brought my business to North Country HArley in Augusta Main and they have been outstanding. Supportive, knowledgable, and genuinely concerned about satisfaction.

Hi there again boriqua_biker...
i am so very greatful...!!!! Can you email me at LU5150FX@YAHOO.COM
Then i can figure out how i can get you paid for that kit i need (???)
As for the dealer issue`s around here in NY, dynawillie aint lying one bit... he`s lived in the area i live, and these dealers around here have huge attitudes. I go into the jap bike dealers and get treated like a king, and i havent bought anything from most of them, BUT they still treat me WAYYYY better than any harley dealers around here EVER have.
People that know me personally, know me as a really super laid back nice person, until my buttons get pushed, (and that takes ALOT to even do that too) BUT that goes without saying for anybody.
My wife`s bike had been to the dealer 9 times for a speed sensor issue and they still couldnt fix it... finally i bought the speed sensor and fixed it myself. I even told them what was wrong with it too, and what would fix it...! I understand that they cant go on MY word, an THEY have to diagnois it themselve`s... but 9 trips back to the dealership for the same problem in less than a 3 week span is bullshitt in my book. Where do they find these idiots anyway.
They tried to fix her gas gauge on another occassion (04 softail EFI - float stuck) an they reused the original gasket, screws, plastic screw seals on the top of the tank... we drove to the gas station, filled the bike, gas poured out of the tank where they re-used the old gasket. Needless to say, right back to the dealer we went. I asked them for a new gasket and screws (w/new plastic seals for the screws, which they didnt replace either) took the bike home, fixed it correctly once again, per the shop manuel. And can you believe they never even cracked the shop manuel open to do this job...? I asked them to look it up, they have spec`s to re-torque that top plate, but they told me they never had one come back with a leak... imagine THAT...!
Sometimes the warranty just isnt worth the hassle if you know what i meen. Her other 2 harleys she`bought brand new, they couldnt fix either of those either. We ended up paying out of pocket on our own and fixing them both at home too. You can only do this for so long before your buttons finally get maxed out..., BUT i still walk into those dealerships with a more than good attitude towards them even though they`ve screwed me everytime, because i`m just the kinda person that just keeps letting the water go over the dam so to speak. I am a VERY forgiving person because we`re only human.... but enough is enough.
So after this episode with this $450 billet camplate & oilpump kit yesterday, you can see why i`ve gotten a lil flustard over how i was treated after i spent all this money at those dealerships. My wife has added up what we`ve spent over the past 7 years... new bikes, clothing, parts & accessories = over $130,000.00
How would YOU feel after all that... and this is only a drop in the bucket, of what my wife and others have gone thru around here. We arent the only ones... i hear and read tons of whore`stories all the time how people are treated like shitt at alot of the harley dealers, especially when they really need parts or their bikes fixed right.
I do agree that ther ARE some good HD dealers out there, because i met some good people at this newly owned dealership today... i was greeted instantly, and they had a GREATFUL kind of care and type of attitudes... maybe its just because they are new and they took over the past dealership recently, but time will tell. I went in there last year when they first opened, only bought an oil filter and some oil and when i went in there today, (a year later) they STILL knew my first name...!!!! They chated with me for over an hour before i could get out of there... and they made me feel like i was wanted at their dealership. That meen`s ALOT...! I can only hope they stay that way, an not become the norm like the rest of the HD dealerships i`ve been in, in the past 7 years.
Anyhow, i`m just babbling on here... email me, and i`ll get some cash out to you for that sub support kit buddy.... and once again, i am SOOOO very greatful of you offering to do this for me. This forum and its people on here have been so awesome to me... i am forever greatful to ALL of you guyz

I stopped by my local dealer this afternoon and asked about the TC 88 and the TC 88 A and was told there is no such thing as a TC 88 with no suffix. I had them pull the parts manual out for a 99 and a 2000 and showed them the difference and they still refused to call it a non a model. The problem is most of the people in the parts department have not been around long enough to know any thing about a motor that is 9 years old going on 10. I am sure that the people who put together the cam support kit had over looked the fact that the original TC 88 was different. For what it is worth my delkron plate was drilled and tapped for a plug to fill this opening.
If you have a good store specializing in screws and fasteners you should be able to get a 1/16" pipe tap and Allen type pipe plug. Tap the hole and lock tight the plug in. Or get a thread displacing fine thread self tapping screw and a copper washer to seal the hole.

Hello there cts1950...
i agree with you, i asked 3 dealer`s today about that very same question you had asked... i got the same exact answer that you got... go figure bro. These dealers need to get off their azz`s and start paying for smarter tech`s instead of these highschool retarded book smart punks they have right now. And most arent EVEN booksmart. (most of them cant even read a shop manuel) I`ve turned wrench`s for 40+ years... i probably forgot more than they`ll ever know.
I like your idea of tapping the hole and plugging it off, but i`m not sure which hole to tap and plug off in this camplate.
Can you possibly locate some pictures and show me...??? If you can, you can email me at: LU5150FX@YAHOO.COM
Thanks so much foir your awesome info...!!!!

Larry
when you look at the back side of the plate you will see 4 holes in almost a vertical line 1 is a bolt hole and the others corresponds to the oil passages on the engine case. Our engine cases only have two oil holes, it is the upper hole that needs to be plugged in the cam plate. The thumb nail pix that boriqua posted shows the difference, our motors are the upper example, you can see the added boss with o ring counter bore above the block with the 3 vertical holes on is a bolt hole 2 are oil passages. If you are unsure which one to plug smear some grease on the mating surface on the case and plug the hole with no grease transfer on the cam plate. I discovered my problem the night before a club ride about 11 pm I looked through all my fittings and could not find the right pipe plug but found I was able to force a 5/16 fine thread set screw into the hole so I did with red lock tight and it is still that way now.

Do a search on "bad service at harley dealerships" on yahoo or google, you`ll find more stories than one could ever read in a lifetime, on how many bad dealerships ther are, out there. DynaWille chimed in hear earlier... he had lived in my area, he`s not lying about how bad it is here. I`ve never ever walked into a dealership with a bad attitude towards them... mainly because i`m just not that kind of person, but my patience IS wearing very thin with them.
Its getting harder to have a good attitude when your getting it stuck in your azz with every trip to these HD dealers. Like i said in an earlier thread/post, i still believe that ther ARE some nice HD dealers out there, they`er just not here in MY area. They just cant ALL be that bad.
Lately i`ve learned to buy my parts on-line so i dont have to deal with their attitudes much anymore. I fix ALL of our bikes on my own... being that these dealerships cant fix them anyway, so i`m better off doing them myself... and it also saves me from another frustrating day at the dealer.
Sometimes i think i feel really bad for the people that CANT fix their own bikes... they are stuck feeding the big orange/black machine called the HD motor co. You`d be surprised how many harley`s get traded in at the jap bike shops around here.... and i think its pretty funny how you hear these dealers say its been another bad year for them...lol (hmmmm geez i wonder why...lol go figure...lol)
But, then again, real bikers wrench and ride their own bikes too, dont they...lol.
Hey take care... and ride safe my friend
