RPM at Idle - What should it be?

I recently purchased a used 05 VRSC Screaming Eagle (2000 miles). It idles at about 1400-1500 RPM. This seems/sounds a bit high. Is this normal? I'm still experimenting with the bike. So far, a nice machine....but I'm afraid my back tire isn't going to last long!

I think the idle should be around 1200 rpm's, at least that is where my 03 V-rod usually idles (and what the powercommander shows when hooked to the laptop AFTER warmup - it will idle higher while warming up).

He's right. The idle should be about 1150 to 1200 rpms. There are a couple of things to check before you spend any money;

1. Is the air filter dirty?
2. Are the throttle cables lubricated?
3. Are the throttle plates closing completely?
