Fuel Millage / Economy

Over the last month I have noticed my gas millage drop to a crazy low, even for the VROD.

I ride maybe 20 miles and use a quarter tank.

Does this seem right to you? I remember the same 20 miles (Ride to my Office) use about 1/8 of a tank.

Thanks,

Kevin

obviously thats not great, 80miles on a tank, but i drive mainly in the city also and average around 90miles a tank, so its not unheard of. also whats your type of driving, is it balls out at every light or what? ps im on the south side of chicago, where are you?

I just got 11k miles on my baby and I am getting 42-44 mpg routinely. I do down shift when stopping but I do not 'vrod' or drag strip takeoffs. The power is there I use it when I have to. Tomorrow I am going to take a mental heath day off and run her dry....not good for fuel injection but I just have to know. I'll report tomorrow.

Thanks for the info...

Im a North-sider. South Barrington to O'Hare daily.

Im a casual driver most of the time... When hitting the hammer, I can almost watch the fuel gauge drop.

Sounds more like your fuel guage is developing the dreaded "very inaccurate/irratic" problem, probably not a problem with your actual fuel mileage. Mine recently developed similar problem, just after it made one year old. Read the posts on fuel guage errors, erratic operation.

Polizzio: Been there - Done that. Its not erratic, just a gas guzzler.

i know this has no scientific value, but recently my mpg was dropping below 90 on a tank and i was driving very conservatively. after getting my bike dynoed, where he really opened it up past 130mph. it has been running great and my mpg is going up past 90 with straight city driving. for what its worth - jack

Well... That sounds like a great reason to open her up on LSD this weekend. Last time I hit 120 on Lake Shore Drive I almost hit the wall

6k on mine. KN air filter/SE slip ons and ECM flashed. I get 37-42MPG. Don't do your MPG math using the gauge on the bike. They are all hopelessly inaccurate. I get 110 miles comfortably on a tank. but have streched it to 132 and it took 3.2 gallons to fill it.

I was a little (very little) concerned about fuel economy with the 28 tooth pulley. On my ride to Biketoberfest from Miami to Daytona (with a 28 tooth pulley) I got 42.86 mpg running 85 mph (120 mile on 2.8 gallons. Higher revs but good fuel economy.

I'm curious, how far did you make it before running dry?

Just recieved a recall notice in the mail for my 2003 V-Rod, and some 2004's. They say they have to put a new fuel tank module flange in. which will provide more fuel pressure delivery, and improve the smoothness of the engine. Maybe the problem? I don't know.

i also just today received a recall letter from the MoCo about replacing the fuel module flange. i think someones been listening to all of these recurring problems. hopefully this will solve it.
