Check engine light stays on a little after starting, ck'ed battery OK, could it be?
I haven't noticed surging a lot, just once and a while, and at steady speeds, I get a little surging. I was wondering could this be related to the fuel pressure problem a few of you have been experiencing? Was your check engine light on after you started the bike for 15 seconds or so?
I checked and have no codes coming up, so it hard to track down, but there appears there is something wrong.
I am hoping to get this corrected because I am planning a trip down to NC within the next few weeks. Thanks for your help.
Dave

Hi Dave:
You can do a quick check for the "Fuel Return" prblem. Start the bike, remove the fuel filler cap. Take a flash light and look down the filler hole. If you see fuel spraying or misting, you should go and get the update.
Thanks: Steve

Thanks Steve,
Did that last night and I look good, no spray or stream of gas, gas in the tank is still no sign of any movement.
This check engine light thing is funny, if I let it sit for just a little while an turn it on, no light but let it set over night and light stays on for just a little bit. I am not experiencing any problems; bike runs well no codes when I check, so it's off to New Burn NC this weekend. I am kind of thinking it's a cold starting issue or even a low battery. Don't see it's a low battery because I ride it most everyday, but could be. If I do get a battery I have been looking at an Odyssey Battery, they look to be the best battery on the market, do you sell them or can you get me one?
Thanks again,
Dave

The check engine light should come on for 5-15 seconds when started because it is performing a system check. It also is a bulb check. As long as it goes out within that time frame and does not come on when riding you should be okay.
If it ever starts flashing while riding you should pull over and shut down. Federal Law mandates how the check engine light works with the emission system. It is the same for passenger cars and trucks. All new vehicles sold today use the same basic code system.

Hi Dave:
Is the bike turning over slow? what gives you the idea the battery is low? I do sell the Odyssey Batteries. I have not found one that fits yet. I Will check into it.
The light problem, If there are no codes, you may have to go to the Dealer and have them plug in the Scanylizer.
Best: Steve

It should recycle after 50 starts. It is a" Past Problem " light. Mine does the same thing since I installed my Screamin Eagles and the dealer said not to worry. They can re set the computer at H-D if it bothers you.

Thanks everyone,
It must have been a past code because in the last few starts no light once the bike is started. Thank you all very much this is what make the board such a great source of information.
Thanks Steve, If I do need a battery I have heard the Odyssey is the best you can buy, expensive but last a lot longer than a regular battery. I also saw a short piece on them on Speed TV's American Thunder show, appear to be a real quality part.
Thanks again everyone I off in the morning to New Burn NC, heck who knows if I am luck maybe I can meet Lizzie:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2436259338
I still can't believe she'd post her home and cell phone numbers in an eBay ad. She'll more than likely get a call from that fat guy who had his naked reflection in that teapot, he was selling on eBay.
Anyway ride safe all,
Dave

Oh well I guess I was thinking of the wife while I was on my trip, and never found a chance to call her. But I did see that on her eBay auction she wanted $17,300 as a reserve for her 03 V-Rod. It looks like she'll be holding on to that one for a while, just as well I am sure she looks real fine on it.

I had this same issue after giving the rod a bath. I just thought something got a little to wet.
Took it to my local dealer and they did a quick code check, found nothing.
After the code check - no more light. Maybe it's like windows, you need to reboot to fix.
GET A MAC and keep your vrod!
