Fuel cut out

My bike started having problems right after I bought it. The engine cuts out or misses right around 4000 rpms and once it moves past it it runs fine again. When the bike starts getting low on fuel the problems gets worse to the point it misses when just running at 65 mph. When I fill the bike back up with fuel it goes back to running how I first described. Anyone know what is going on?

All VRods are fuel injected.

Torsiello, First get a bright flashlight (NOTHING WITH A FLAME) Pop up the seat. Remove the fuel (gas) cap. Start the bike and then look inside the tank. If you see fuel spraying around like a fountain you found the problem. The fitting works its way out of the plastic flange. If this is the problem you need a special tool to remove the fuel flange. I have one I could loan you. If you need to have the dealer do it. I can give you more info to relay to them. Find out if this is the problem first. Then give us a holla back.

I had figured that was the problem after reading through other post on this site. And yes, my bike does have this problem. H-D already told me that mine is not covered under the recall for this problem and eventhough I dont agree with this there is nothing I can do about it. My problem now is finding somthing to remove the fuel tank lid. Are you saying there is a special tool for the fuel module flange as well?

The fuel flange is the top of the tank. You can make a tool from a piece of pvc pipe(4" I think) and a strap wrench. just notch the pvc where the ribs on the flange ring are and use the strap wrench to turn it loose. You can remove the existing pressed in fitting and tap the flange for pipe threads and install a barbed fitting then reinstall the hose. Lube the oring up w/ vasoline and reassemble it.

I added the original Service bulletin so you can see if your bike should have been covered instead of relying on the dealer to look. Mine supposedly wasn't but I got them to change it anyway, got another bad one and they changed that one too.
