ktwillis, you said a mouthful. MADE TO HD SPEC. i think the biggest trouble is the chevl lifter id designed to run at 30-60 psi oil pressure. Hd twin cams run 16-40 on a motor with no runout and no pump wear.
when we correct the pressure ( i run RRCYCLES billet cam plate and 07 pump) to 30's idle and 40 and up on the road, we move into chevy spec. reverse that-------guys buy the chevy spec lifters and run at 6-8 idle and 30 on the road, or run SE heads with too much spring pressure, or buy a spring set that has too much seat pressure, or let a "builder " set up their heads with unknown spring pressure, this is where we encounter problems.
for the most part, the stock oem B lifters are a great compromise. i ran the ams lifters (hi-lift johnsons) and was thriled for about 3000 miles. problem is, no lifter so far has stayed per spec. they get louder, or, they bleed off overnite, or they pump up at high rpm, no perfect lifter. i would go solids if i could find em. at least the noise would be constant------so if a probleem was developing, i could hear the progression of said problem. as it is, a set of lifters every 5000 miles is not acceptable.
