Question EFI Re-map & V-mod on non-US V-Rod?

I'll be getting a new 2002 V-Rod from my dealer here in Norway soon, and I was planning on getting the PC III, SE air filter and a set of V-Mod'ed stock pipes.

Now I'm reading that the "international" (non-US) version uses different EFI maps due to the fact that these bikes are equipped with catalytic converters. Is this actually the case? If so, I am assuming that I'd run into probs using a "US" PC III map for these pipes? Just wondering because I can not find any "non-US" PC III maps of any kind on PC's V-Rod page.

Can anybody shed some light on the actual differences, and whether I can even do these modifications to my bike?

hi thor!

i have an '03 canadian spec v-rod that i am in the process of installing seII 16 gauge pipes, se air filter, and pc on. your post jogged my memory as i think i remember reading in the owner's manual that the ecm re-calibration for usa and non-usa models was different for seI pipes but the same for seII pipes. i mention this because it seems to be evidence that not all exhaust mods require different map on usa vs. non-usa models? very complicated. i will check this when i get home tonight. any idea why the non-usa models have catalytic converters? i would have guessed the opposite, as it seems the us emissions laws are the more strict.

just checked - it was in the accessories catalogue. same reprogramming chip for usa and non-usa models with s/eII 16 gauge pipes and s/e air filter. so at least some exhast mods don't require a special map. also checked google under "v-rod catalytic" - first hit is a power commander page detailing different maps for catalytic converter versions of a number of bikes - v-rod not among them. seems pc people are onto all these variations and i guess if they don't have a different map for converter equipped v-rods then the usa model version is ok. i have e-mailed power commander site to check with them. will let you know their response.

I appricate the detective-work Steve! I just got off the phone with my dealer, and even he seemed a tad uncertain as to the differences in EFI maps for these versions. According to him you have the US, International and the California models, all differnt in terms of emission control. But you make an excellent point about PC, after seeing that they offered one type of map for all V-Rod versions I started to suspect that there might not be any major diffs for EFIs on these versions. Please keep us informed on your findings!
