.016" down the hole!

Just picked up heads and cyls off the wife's '07 dyna. Couldn't believe it when the wrench told me the pistons were .016" down the hole. Talk about loose tolerances. Taking heads and cyls to the porter in the morning!

whoa! good info there! maybe this answers why, out of the box, some bikes (or even cars or sleds, etc...) seem to run so strong, and their identical twin can be an absolute stone......

I am a little fuzzy on just what you are saying here, do you mean at TDC, the top of the piston is .016 from the top of the cylinder deck?

If so, you must take into consideration that the bottom of the cylinder has a rubber O-ring, and may have decompressed and raised the deck height.

Just got back from the shop. The tech had the heads back on and was working on the rockers. Hope to have the bike running tonight. He showed me the feeler gauge that he'd used to measure the new deck height. It was .0015"!

There are thinner gaskets to be used in place of the o-rings. I think that comitec makes some.
