Andrews 37 and 26
Just spoke with Ralph at Andrews this AM about my cam choices. Little background, mine: stage 1 07 Street Glide, SERT and 2" Rush slip-ons are the plan. Was all decided on the 26G until our discussion. He thought the 26 would be fine but the 37 significantly better, His thinking the 07 96 motor has increased stroke over the 88 so it wouldn't lose much, if anything to the 26 under 2000 RPM and by 2200 RPM it would be even and above that the 37 would continue to significantly outpull and out HP the 26 in the 96 motor. Also, interesting enough with the 07 redesign of the cam chain, tensioner, and tensioner block mat'l......gear drives really aren't near as important as they once were. In fact, the bigger problem is incorrect set up of the gear drives.
Not sure, but the Andrews guy says 37 over the 26. Thoughts. Thanks in advance.

37
Couple of weeks ago I've been talkin to revperf guys and considering a 107 build with mild head work they were advicing the 37 cam, sayin with the new tensioner there's no need for gear driven cams.
Just to let you know.

I don't think there is enough data on the new tensioners yet to determine how long they will last. I asked this question a couple of weeks ago and HDWrench said he saw some new style ones with lots of wear with low miles.

Well the 96 is making in the 9.3-9.5 range for compression so the 26 would work well as the 37 would as well with the increase stroke of the 96 it would be a decent cam. Head work always a plus, now the 107 kit WILL not work with a 37 the comp level is going to be too high for a 107 kit that will come in the 10.2 + range . You need to look for a cam that is closing in the 45-48 point ATDC and bump the compression to 10.5-10.6

What RPM are you going to operate the motorcycle?
Do you ever get to the rev. limit now?
Do you operate above 4500rpm on any kind of a regular basis?
Highway, backroads, two up all the time, trailer towing, etc?
Andrews is correct, and the 96" will have higher piston speed and acceleration (due to the increased stroke), taking advantage of the 37 with lower compression than we see in the 95"

I have 26's in my bike, and I have 37's in my toolbox.........never know when I might get bored or need a change.

What RPM are you going to operate the motorcycle
Mostly in the 2K to 4K range...though rarely up to 5K
Do you ever get to the rev. limit now?
Haven't yet and really no intention to hit it.
Do you operate above 4500rpm on any kind of a regular basis?
Not really
Highway, backroads, two up all the time, trailer towing, etc?
Mostly solo..sometimes with the wife or son. About 3/4 back roads and 1/4 superslab.

That toolbox runs good, but the powerband is a bit to high for a 1000 lb toolbox....need more low end torque.

From what you said.............I would say the 26's are a better choice for your riding style.

I would flip the coin. You can use either. 26 would work in your application but as Andrews has stated, the 37 will continue to pull into the range you don't go. That doesn't mean you can't use it, I would expect good street manners from it (37) and think in the lower rpm range will show very close to equal.

Just installed a Crane 6000 in my '07. Same specs as the 300-2 for the previous twin cams. Almost the same as the JM20 minton cam. May have similar performence to 26 but this cam is quiet. Runs great. Around $256.00 at Wally's.
