Headporting costs?
I'm getting ready to start a 95" build on my '03 Dyna, what are the costs to get the heads done by some of the major players (Dewey's, Big Boyz, GMR, Atwood)? Not all list the prices on their websites. Thanks.

Many options that will drive the price. GMR did my heads (CNC) a few months ago and it was about $750. Best to give them a call, as suggested, and let the experts tell you the options/prices.

The thing is it varies depending on what you need done. Porting is really just smoothing out the port area for a nice flow.
In addition these guys will open up the port area to flow enough for your displacement and RPM. Then if your valves are going to be a restriction they can reseat the heads and put in bigger valves.
If the lift is higher than the springs will allow they can put in new springs. They can also measure and mill the combustion chambers to achieve the proper compression ratio for your cam.
There are a lot more options, so you can see why posting a price is not done. The work someone would need for a tw26 is different than the work for an S&S 570. Find a cam that you like and then call them.
I haven't used any of them but plenty here have and they all seem satisfied. Pick the one that you like the most.

head porters
Well everyone has an opinion, and i'm sure this will get alot of people in an uproar. All of the companys you listed and called big players, are really not the big players in my experiance. Baisleys, tman, head quarters, std, hillside cycles, and even branch are more of your big players. Most of what you listed seems to be this site's sponsors, not saying that they are not good, but unsure if you are aware of others in the industry that are not part of this site. I have used almost all of these porters, and I do say that i really tend to use baisleys. All of these porters made great power, within a few #'s of each other, but his product is built strong, and I havnt run into any issues with them. Repost who you ended up going with and why, I think it may be interesting to me and everyone on the forum. Thanks!
Again I'm not discrediting any of these other guys, just mentioning a few other alternatives.

Can't go wrong with Big Boyz...........Bean knows his $hit and has been doing it for a long time.
$299 for the porting/ polishing and 5 angle valve job
$70 for milling
$25 for cc'ing
And Bean is always available and willing to help with whatever comes up during the build.

Big Boyz. I agree 100% with UMC. I did my build on my 05 ultra. It runs great and now I had Bean do his work on my heads. I am waiting to see the improvement on the dyno. I should have my bike back in two weeks.
Currently, 95, 204 cams, SE flattop pistons, SERT, SEaircleaner. pro-pipe and cleaned up heads. 86hp and 95LB. I am having the heads switched and retuned. I will post the new results. This will really show the improvement of just the heads done by Bean, compression set at 9.5 due to CA gas.

I've sent 2 sets of heads to Bean. I'll send my next ones there too! He does great work and will explain exactly what you do and do not need for your build.

I'm using 204 cams also, is 9.5 a good comp ratio? My bike is carbed and I can buy race gas here in Ohio.

With that set up there's no need for race gas and I'm not certain you'd benefit at all by the use of it...too bad you already have the 204's...with the 9.5 compression you could go with Andrews TW37's and add the gears while yer at it...Big Boyz are a great head for your build...

EF,
I am the wrong person to ask. Call Bean. He informed me he has used up to 9.8 for the 204 cam. I spoke to both Bean and my wrench individually about my concerns and riding requirements. Thereafter they spoke and determined the CR.

Using 84cc combustion chambers (Were they measured?), a 3.950 x .030 gasket and 1.5cc valve reliefs I came up with 9.5 compression ratio. That gives a 184.73 calculated cold cranking pressure which is low enough for easy starting. Dynamic or corrected compression ratio is 8.98:1, well under the 9.5 : 1 recommended for running on pump gas.
It looks to me like you could drop the combustion chamber size to 82CC and still be fine. That would give 9.73 static, 189.5 cold cranking pressure , and 9.16 dynamic compression.
Edit:
I'd ask someone that's done it to be sure.

My Dewey Pro Street Port Heads were about 750 if I recall correctly. That was 6 mo ago, best money I have spent.
