Andrews 55G
If you're running the 55G's, let's hear the pros & cons. What's the rest of your build, and if you have some dyno numbers please post.
After reading a TON of cam threads, my short list was the Andrews 37G, 55G, Woods 6HG, and S&S 585G. My dyno guy says the 55G is right for my needs. I've read all my eyes can stand, and just want to hear from you dudes running the 55G........ How do you like your Andrews 55G cams?

I have installed them in 95" motors and they work OK. 99flhti ported heads 90hp 100tq with duals and slip-ons, 10/1 flatops. The heads need to be ported and compression ratio in the 10.25/1 area to get the benefit of the added lift etc. There are better grinds out there IMO. Take a look at S&S 570g, Crane 290-2, or TW6HG (noise). The S&S or Crane will be on the high end of the CR range for the grind but when tuned right with ported heads the bike will rip.

I run them in my Night Train. 95"
10.2:1 static, KB pistons, ported stock heads with 1.9 - 1.615 valves, roller rockers, (probably dont need but at this lift but there's still less side loading) b lifters , stock plate and pump, latus spring.....bike is quiet.
starts to hit hard at about 2750..... pull real nice to 6200 limiter.
Cant find the D-graph...but it made just a tick over 100 torque...102 hp.
I run a 3.37 primary gear, so it gets up on the cam quicker.
the torque curves I've seen with this cam and correct tunes have a nice area under the curve. I'm happy with mine...but I would reccomend at least 10:1 comp..with 10.2-3 as the as the "target"

There are many ways to get it done. The GMR 98 kits with less compression and 37s reach 100/100 very easily even with less than optimum pipes, when tuned right and have a lot of torque under the curve (hit hard down low). The new Andrews high lift version of the TW44 the 46 is on my short list for build like this. If I want a hot rod I would then build a high compression motor with very good heads and jump to the TW67. The hot rod would not be equipped with bagger duals but a good 2 into 1 pipe. All of this assumes 95-98cu in. Bigger motors would change the requirements.

get a hold of Dewey (SILVER BULLET), Latley, he's been playing with some 55s hooked up with his heads. He's having good luck with them and making some strong power. He might shed some insight into them for you. I'm thinking about the 55's myself in a few months.... just my 2 cents

Yep agree on talking to Dewey. He will be happy to tell you how well the TW67g performs with his heads and show you the dynos on his site where a 95" motor produces 112hp+ with very high, flat and wide torque curve.

That's the guy you should be talking to. He will know how to port the heads for whatever particular grind profile you guys end up picking. He will also be able to tell you the ins and outs of the different cams with his heads. Ask to see some dynos.

He is very good. If he does your heads I would go with his cams. DME tc590.

I spoke with Dave Mackie today -- great guy. He's 100%, no reservation, no other choice, behind the Andrews 55G cams for my build. Next week, in it goes!

Wow..that surprises me. Specifically why did he recommend the Andrews TW55 over his own DME590 cam for your build?

I'm not sure. I told him I was running the SE high compression cast pistons, he said I need a later closing intake for that but not TOO late or I'd lose my bottom end. (the 590 closes at 42, 55G at 46). He also said I needed a cam that would bleed off some of the compression. That's overlap I'm guessing (590 overlap 38, 55G is 42). He said I'd have plenty of bottom end torque, and it'd pull hard all the way to 6200. I pushed him just a bit about other choices to test his resolve, and he was absolutely certain this would be right.
The 55G's are midway between his 510 & 590. I think they fill a slot.
Another thing, my bike's a heavy cruiser. I asked for a LOT of power when I want it, but still able to set the cruise control all day long at 2900 RPM. This was absolutely it, no hesitation in his voice.
Dave Mackie is nearby, in Ventura. The shop that will do my build is also in Ventura, and they do a lot of Mackie's stuff. I got the impression that the shop (My Garage) and Mackie had a lot of experience and good luck with the 55G's.

I'm a fatas$ riding a heavy bike; and I like this cam; but my compression is toward the high end of its range. I had to do quite a bit of tinker-tuning to get it to stop pinging. I would say Syclone's description of its power band is right on. I always try to keep my rpm above 2500 and the motor really likes it between 2700 and 3500.
My old dyno and some other information is posted here:

Seahag, glad to hear you're happy with the 55G's. Only thing is, my current 203s are showing more torque & hp from 2500-3000. I sure hope I don't lose that in the process.
