Advice for winter project
Okay, I've come to terms with the fact that my stock 88 turd will not be enough. I'm sure there is good things in there, but I don't think they're good enough, from what I've seen. I'm planning a 95", with some head work and cams. There are many options, and I'm wondering what your opinions are. I was leaning towards the 37g, and Big Boyz head work. I'm looking for a torquey build, as most of my riding is in the 2200-3300 rpm range. I do not want something that makes all the usable power way up in the RPM atmosphere. What would you change or add to what I've mentioned? I'd also like to keep the budget reasonable.

Check out Steve at GMR Performance. Great price on head work, fast turn around time and he knows the 37g. Is your bike efi or carb?

Another vote for GMR... and the TB... You can use my map, but I can't take any responsibility for your safety...

If your gonna have GMR do your head work, you might a well go for the 98 in displacement as well.

GMR's performance Stage II package from his site.
This kit is taking the 98 cubic inch kits to the next level. With a hotter cam of our own design and bumping the compression to 10.6.1 this kit will flat our run. We use a cam that has proven track record with no excessive noise. WIth the addition of roller rockers, adjustable pushrods, compression release's installed in the head . We have made 107+hp and tq approaching the 124 mark!!! All of this from a 98 inch bolt on kit. We have come up with this package and for the rider looking for the killer package for scoot than this is one to look at. GIve us a call and we can help you get started and make sure that you are getting a package that fits your riding style.

10.5.1 Forged CP pistons with rings, clips and pins in black highlight or silver cylinders to match your current engine color
GMR 615/585 CAM
Head gaskets are included at no additional charge
Stage II CNC- heads cut on 6 axis CNC
New guides tapered and diamond honed
New viton seals
New Ferrea 1.9 intake valve
New Manely 1.615 exhaust cut down to 1.575 ( that allows a 80% margin= great for flow) full radius valve job
Milled to CC needed for compression based on cam choice
New springs for up to 620 lift ( should you choose a larger cam later no need to replace springs) and set to correct seat pressure for the 37G
Machine and install compression release's
roller rockers
chrome moly 3/8 adjustable pushrods
This kit is $2595.99
This is the deal! I think Steve won't mind me copying this from his site (sorry if you do, let me know and i'll take it down).
I'll take delivery of an Electra Glide next week, Reinhart true duals will be here in about a month, I'll have about 1500 miles on it by then. Then I'll order this kit, I can hardly wait! I'm used to the power my Heritage has and I'm just not going to ride without it.

I have the big boyz porting on my heads, 95" jugs and SE 204 cams. This thing comes on strong and early. max torque is 105 at ~3600 RPM. My torque is over 95 from the beginning of the chart ~2400 RPM through to ~4700.
HP from the build it 90.7
You can see my Dyno here: http://www.bigboyzcycles.com/dyno.htm it is the 4th from the top.
What ever you do just have fun and enjoy building your new engine.

I really appreciate all of the input guys. You've given me a lot to consider between now and build time. As far as performance for dollar, is there that big of an advantage in going with the 98 kit?

Depends on if you want to build a hot 95 to make 100/100 or a milder 98 and make 100/100. Decide how much power / tq you expect and then work with someone like GMR to come up with a plan for the winter. There are plenty of bikes with 95 inch builds making 100/100 that run consistently strong and no problems. I have several friends that just bored out stock jugs, put most of the money in the head work, high lift cams, and at least 10.5:1 pistons.
If you have unlimited funds though you should go ahead and build a 124 or the 131.

Need to decide if you want a bike with high compression, and if you want or can install a high lift cam.
I got 98" with 9.7", I would be tempted to put the stock head gasket in and lower compression. But none of the other kids are doing that. Wait and see when I get back from Montana next month. Lot of low octance gas. Also hiogher compression is harder on engine. But will the bike ever see that many miles?
If you don't travel and put lots of miles on, go for the fun build.

My build with BigBoyz heads and 37b cams is one of the strongest ever for that common build. I bored my clinders and used SE pistons and just stuck with the chains in the cam chest for now. Runs very VERY well!
I will tell you that if you want all your power from 2200 to 3300, you're gonna be disappointed with this combo. The 37 comes on at about 2700 but really hits hard about 3150, it's like afterburners at WOT.. May wanna try the 204's or perhaps the 26's if you really want to ride and have your power that low

I do a fair amount of riding, I bought the bike in Feb., and put about 700 miles on in Daytona, and it's got almost 4000 now. I guess I'm not too sure which cam would be more suited to my riding. Do you guys think that the cubes will help enough out of the hole, that I can go with the 37, or should I do the 204 or 26 for the low end. I guess the question is, where will the cubic inches make up for the cam better, low or high rpm?
