Discontinued HD oil cooler adapter
Folks,
I ordered a Softail oil cooler kit from Zanotti and it appears that for whatever reason this kit is either on backorder or obsolete. Any words of wisdom about a comparable replacement? Should I wait until the mother ship decides on a new revision of the part?
I love the simplicity of the MoCo part as it integrates the thermostat. Simple, clean and not cheap...........

I've been told that something has changed on the 07 models in relation to oil filter mounts and oil coolers. HD has discontinued oil cooler models until they can be modified to fit all 99-07 models. New versions will be coming out.
As I said, this was hearsay though, although there was some kind of notice posted on HTT a few weeks ago.
JAGG now sells a setup with an adapter that has a thermostat in it.

Get the Slimline by Jagg. Jagg makes all the coolers for HD anyway. You may as well get the best.

As per the bulliten the obsolete part # is 26136-05 for softtail. The new # that will be released in august is 26157-07. The xl,99-05 dyna and 99-05 touring have no part # yet. These are for the kits though.

I have one and it works great. Nothing more to say.

I looked for this device on their website, can't find it. Is now a part of the kit?
Thx

Go to this page and look down the list for "oil filter anti-rotation device". You'll see it.
http://www.jagg.com/JAGGAPPLICATION.htm
Be aware that you can't use this device on an adapter that has the thermostat in it.

Ed, thanks now I've found it. I will go with the thermostat version and not use the anti rotation device. Temps are in the low 90' now and we are planning top go on a longer trip across Austria, Northern Italy and Croatia. Hate to have to watch out for oil temps.
Thanks again to all that contributed

Mine adaptor has a thermostat built in, and I am using an Anti Rotation Device. Just call them like I did. They'll take care of it over the phone.

Paniolo,
Seems to be a problem with JAGG then. I've got 2 different friends that called them about which adapter to get and both were told that the adapter with the thermostat would not allow use of the anti-rotation part.
Doesn't make sense!!!!!!!!!! Are you sure yours has the thermostat in it?????

Yes it does.
This is the oil cooler thermostat unit I am using the 4700 black: http://www.jagg.com/adapter.htm
And this is the Anti-Roation Device I am using.
If you can't make out the installation instructions, ping me a PM and I'll e-mail it to you.

All i can say is that if you value your life in any way, do not go with the harley oil cooler. I had done a 98ci motor on my 99 wideglide, and to be on the safe side i put the oil cooler on. Big mistake. When i went to change the oil the first time, the whole filter and adapter moved back and forth. So i called my mechanic, and he told me that harley was having trouble with them and that there was an updated adapter coming out. He told me to put it back together and ride it until the new part came out, which i did. 2 weeks later, it went. Fortunately i had been at a gas station and filling up with a couple of friends. I started the bike, and my one friend told me to shut it down. It blew about a quart of oil all over the bike and asphalt. Fortunately i was not riding when it happened, or me and my friends wouldve went down. So i called Harley and told them what happened. They told me that there was nothing that they could do for me. I told the lady, so harley doesnt care if they kill there riders. She obviously had no response to that. Anyways, i took the oil cooler off, a currently do not have one on the bike. I really didnt need it, as i dont ride in the city, or in any extremely hot places. Hopefully ive helped.

I have the jagg 4700 adapter with thermostat and without the anti-rotation device with the horizontal slimline low mount. I have not had any problems with rotation of the adapter during oil changes, just don't overtighten your filter. I did have a problem with the hose clamp leaking just a little tho. My temps in south Florida are about 200-210 in traffic and about 195-200 on the road.
Jagg makes a great cooler.

I've been running the Softail oil cooler for three years without so much as a drop leaking out.
