DynoJet Cost...

Does anyone out there know what a Dyno really costs? Is the DynoJet 250 the best motorcycle Dyno? What does one really cost? Is there a host of add-ons (at additional cost) that you need to have to operate effectively? We don't have many Dynos in my neck of the woods and I really don't think the local dealer has a clue. Obviously, there are many other questions to be answered but cost seems to be the best place to start.

Just curious in South Dakota...

There are many add-ons with a dyno so you must figure out what you need up front to get a real cost. I believe the Superflow is a better unit overall but cost more as well. I own a dynojet and have used both. The Superflow wasn't around when I bought mine. If you want load control which I did you will be into a dynojet with load control for about $28,000

You can go on there web site to see but my guess is 22,000.00 with out the computer. The new Dyno is the 250i, and yes they are the leader in the industry.

Superflow is consider as being better. It has feature that if you are doing R&D work and have the use for them that makes it better.

Dynojet is the most used and the benchmark dyno used to hype products, both motorcycle and automotive. One reason for that is it gives around 7% higher numbers with the 250 model and 14% or more with the older 150 model over what a Surperfow hands out. HP sells...LOL

Dynojet and Carlson Company sell the 200i and 250i ala cart.

Base price for a 250i I believe is now in the $22,000.00+ range. The you need fans and they are $2200.00+, and you need the AFR stack and thats around another $2,500.00+. You might want to add extended carriage to handle the chopper trade and thats in the $1500.00 range I believe. Working along power wheel lock is nice, forget it's price range But I've got you in the $25,000-$30,000 range already.

Then there is the new Torque Cell option that could make the Dynojet shine right up there or even ahead of the Superflow.

The Torque Module is for measuring loaded roll-ons and real-time torque with the new WinPEP7 software. Perform sweep and step tests, as well as wind drag simulations.

ACCESSORY / UPGRADE MODEL 200i MODEL 250i
Air/Fuel Ratio Module
Dual Multi-Axis Cooling Fan System
Monitor Tray
Air Brake/EEC Safety
Eddy Current Load Absorption Unit --- standard on 250i
Power Clamp/Carriage
Torque Cell Package X
Extended Carriage
Fat Boy Wheel Adapter
Folding Ramp

Good research and I agree with you in the most part. The torque link has been out for years, we use it for timing the FI bikes. Now the winPEP 7.1.0.5. version has the windage and step program that the winPEP 6 didn't offer. The winPEP 7.3.0.5 version that comes with the new 250i or 200i doesn't offer the windrag or step program.
I also disagree with the DynoJet giving a higher hp reading, its all in the softwear, to claim there is a 7% to 14% difference is unbelieveable. The Superflow is known for higher readings but its only around 3% more. No big deal when you use the Dyno for a tuning tool.
The Superflow does have a fuel flow and air flow feature that the Dyno Jet doesn't, but how much is that needed? The DynoJet has an automatic weather station for each run to figure in the correction factor, Superflow YOU have to enter the weather information for that run.
Good job on the research

Thanks...

Steve, Hdmd88 (Doc, based on reading many posts, sounds like things are loopking up) and Turbotc. Thanks for the very specific answers to a pretty generic set of questions. I thought the costs were higher. I'm certain that the "learning" process will be the bigger obstacle.

I'm from the "run, listen, check plugs, change jets, run again, listen, check plugs, etc..." camp. The thought of attempting to learn quite a bit more so I can actually intelligently converse with the likes of folks like you is tampering with my brain. Whether I've got the decades of time left to actually pull it off may be the more troubling obstacle.

Thanks again. )Now how 'bout one of you geniuses helpin me out with my '04 RK PCIII predicament in the EFI forum...)

The dyno jet is the leader without a doubt having used the super flow dynos. If I could get a good deal on either it would take it they both work great. The dayton dynos now well they are a horse of a different color. To tune you need a retarder to do it correctly I have seen way to many bikes tuned and mapped without a retarded and they are way off on the AFR curve.
