? Twin Cam Oil System
2003 Fat Boy
I have just installed a complete Branch Flowmetrics 95" kit.The heads, jugs pistons cams etc.. have been replaced with their parts. The cam is a Branch / Andrews custom grind with .560 lift, the compression is at 10.5-1(JE pistons). I installed screamin eagle adj pushrods roller rockers, forged rocker supports basically every thing that I felt (in my limited knowledge) could be a weak link. The rocker boxes have also had probably more than enough material removed from the ribs (wanted to make sure)to clear the roller rockers. Also replaced the lifters with a set that I'm not very fond of rather not say the name.
Now I'm experiencing the dreaded valve train noise, can hear it over the Hooker 2-1 tuned flow pipe.
Question is: If a guy has the cash to spend is the Feuling Pump & Lifter combo the way to go instead of the Baisley spring?
If only I would have known of this site a week ago, one or the other of these mods would have gotten done while the bike was apart.

The Baisley spring will give you more than enough oil.

Baisley spring will up your pressure to get you where you need to be, but be sure that you have adjusted the pushrods correctly. Feuling lifters will get you no more than those ridiculously expensive SE lifters. Stock would have been OK.

Thanks for the input I'm for sure going to readjust pushrods, got a deal on the pump & lifters could not pass up (friends are great). One more question, would running the zippers shim or Baisley spring instead of stretching the stock bypass spring as per the Feuling instructions be a wise thing to do? Just read about this on Harley Hogs web site.

You can always stretch a spring (redneck calibration trick) but you arent sure of the results. The baisley spring is $12, get it.

You mentioned you ground the ribs on the rocker covers to clear the rollers..but did you check the rocker boxes for clearance for the valve springs/retainers??? will make a heck of a racket if the retainers are hitting the boxes,

I used the fueling pump and still had lifter noise till I installed the Basiley spring.....99.9% noise was gone.

I wonder why this "Basiley" spring is always recomended when I read a .10 cent washer dose the same thing? $12 is cheep compaired to 2~3 G's in mods but 12 bucks is 1200% more expensive than a washer that can yeild the same result?

Its a lot more than a stronger spring...its the way the ends are ground to apply even pressure to the plunger so it won't cock in the port and hang up.

The key words are "can yeild the same results" How thick of a washer? more than one washer? How much more pressure do you want? At what RPM do you want the added pressure and how much addition at that RPM??
Dan Baisley figured this all out...took some time I bet. Then had someone manufacture them for him....then tested them to make sure they did perform as expected. When you look at a Baisley spring and the stock spring (which looks like something out of a big ball point pen) the difference if evident. It raises pressure not across the board ..but rather the increase is proportional to the rise in rpms...Has twice the coil count of a stock spring. $12.95 aint bad....Kind of like paying for the R & D a little with each spring I guess.

mine was noisy til about 700 miles then it suddenly went quiet all by itself. Post elsewhere. I had the spring all along. I think the valves needed some revs on them to bed fully in.

Stretching springs....

Years ago (circa 1966) I had a friend in jr. high whose mom had dated the Formula 1 driver Phil Hill, and as a result knew where Mr. Hill lived in Santa Monica.
We would sometimes go by his place, and if the garage was open, stop in and see him and his car collection (very nice stuff...blower Bently, Pierce Arrow, and lots of piano rolls).
One time he was doing some minor work on a car, looked us right in the eye and said " NEVER stretch a spring"....as he stretched one.....
