117 Dyno'd.....Finally

Finally got my 117 on the dyno last friday. Overall I am pretty satisfied with the results. Unfortunately, the smallest main jet I had for my SK505 was an .088. The motor was still a little rich so we removed the air cleaner to lean it out a bit. I think an .087, or .086 would have squeezed a little bit more. Maybe not. At the altitude here in Vegas, I am pretty happy with these numbers.

140 lbs or torque and about the same HP?!? I'd bet you are happy... As long as you don't fall off the back.

What kind of fuel mileage do you get with the build? Nice graph.

I really have not paid attention to fuel mileage. For obvious reasons, it is not quite what it was with my 95" build. LOL

yburgman1 is an unknown quantity at this point
.088 is too rich?

The reason I am asking is because I built my 95" with Dewey's Heads, 37g, 9.8-1 wisecos, D&D 2-1 Fatcat exhaust. I purchased one of the Woods 41.5 Carbs and it came with .089 main jet. I can feel my bike is too fat on the top end. So should I try going down to .088 or .087? Regards.

I guess the best advice I can give you with jetting is to get it up on a dyno and see what the bike likes. My bike runs an extremely low main jet compared to most other 117 setups I have seen. Most are in the .093-.097 range. The only explanation Bob Wood could come up with was the conditions in the dyno room being lousy (humidity 50%, Alt. 27.83 in-hg). He told me to tune for the best numbers, not necessarily the perfect A/F ratio. That is what I did, and that is the main jet that made the best power on the motor.....and it still wanted one or two mains smaller with the aircleaner on.

One other thing I should have mentioned. Bob does tend to set his carbs up a bit on the fat side for a saftey margin. Better a little on the fat side and let the customer tune it, than to send it too lean and have someone hurt a motor. You could try jetting it down a size or two on the main. Make small adjustments and pay attention to how the bike runs. Don't go too far or you could potentially hurt something if your heavy wristed. Certainly one or two jet sizes smaller should be fine for comparison to where you are now. That being said, the dyno is the best place to tune for final jetting, in my opinion.
