Oil pump wear question

How do you determine if it's necessary to replace the oil pump or not? Are there any tell-tale signs that would indicate the necessity of replacing it? I'm in the midst of disassembling everything to build up my 95". I did have the tensioner shoes replaced due to excessive wear at 35k miles.

Thanks'
Dave

Seahag is on a distinguished road
I know when I tore my pump down, during the cam swap, my service manual had a subsection on inspection. Basically I was to look for excessive scratching, scuff marks...then measure the width of the geroters to make sure each matching pair was the exact same thickness. I have a 0-1" micrometer I used to check that...and they were fine. Thats all I remember...then just replace all o-rings and pack with assembly lube.

What harley says is ok, and what I consider ok is different. I bet what I say is ok, and what many others here say might differ too. Bottom line is these TC pumps can be gouged on the inside diameter of the pump body, and on the outside diameter of the gears, and be gouged on the face of the gears and work almost perfect. I say almost perfect because lets face it. If you have anything less than optimum tolerances some oil will escape the pumping and scanvenging process. But little wear and scratches wont affect your oil pressure at all. The biggest thing you want to watch for is assembly, make sure you realign properly and as Seahag said, put in new Orings.
