Crane HI 4TC

Is anyone running cranes hi4tc? if so how much initial timing is safe for stock compression ? what about single spark or mulit-spark mode ? what # advance curve? and what about the rear cylinder offset? I have a 03 wide glide with 203 came SE air filter and slip fit mufflers. somebody out there must have already figured out the best combo.

Set the Mode to Multi spark, set the initial offset to 0, set the advance curve as high as you can go without ping and then as soon as it gets ping, set the inital to -1, if you still get ping go to -2 on the initial. Dont go above setting 8 though. 45+ degrees of advance is insane.
Do NOTHING with the rear cylinder offset, (set at 0) your build will get nothing out of it on the road even though a Dyno may show a hidden pony.

See my thread on page 2. I have a HI 4TC on my 03 FXDWG and cant stop the pinging. I have decided to go with the S&S IST system. Everyone seems to think it will solve my problem. I done some mods as per my question.

Hope this helps

The IST system works VERY well on those builds that have a ping problem within the low range of RPM"S. Essentially what it does is automatically retard the timing when ping is detected until the ping has ceased. The same effect is achieved by using the initial offset to drop the entire advance curve DOWN however the S&S can and does automatically create a "valley" in the curve to address the ping and then give you back your agressive slope once the problem point has been passed.
The same end result CAN be achieved with the Hi-4TC if you obtain the custom mapping software and associated cables, but all input must be mapped manually. Honestly, the S&S is MUCH more friendly to those who do not enjoy the tinker factor of a more radical build as it is self adjusting However, it sets perameters as it "Learns" and this will cause soft spots in the ignition slope with "Fat" on either side of the retard point. This is NO issue for anyone not concerned with .001's on the quarter mile strip. This also will eliminate the issue I personally experience with temp and altitude changes, but with a unscrew of the knurled seat knob, and a click of the advance slope dial I can choose a softer custom curve that I programmed in for such occasions faster that I can finish my leg stretch and cig break.
