Just plain NASTY...

Friday, I made a trip to one of the local dealers and heard a 04 SE Deuce that was just plain nasty. The owner had it in the shop for reworked heads, SERT, 10.25:1 or so compression, 257 cams and Pro Streets. The bike just sounded awesome. I have Pro Streets on my bike so I know how they sound but this thing sounded nothing like my bike. It was inside so I know it was louder than normal but da#@ it sounded good.

What is giving it the mean sound? Is it the compression? Cams?

The state of tune changes the exhaust note: generally lean = louder higher pitch tone---Richer = loud lower pitch tone

Length of pipe: longer = deeper, shorter = louder

Cam: Exhaust cam ramp and duration and exhaust closing effect the sound.

4 Valve heads give a louder bang also

All the best, Ozzie

More compression will give you a crisper sound also.

When I went to high compression and Long Cams, the sound went from a growl rumble to a thunderous crack and thump.
Hmmmm does that make ANY sense at all???
heh

This all makes sense...the compression improves the combustion efficiency so the resulting sound is crisper and the cam timing effecting when the combustion happens. Makes for one mean sounding machine.
