Gotta out run the duce

Boys and their toys.....hell ya!!!
Ok, I need advise.I have a 04 RK custom.95 BB 203 cam pc3 running 87.6 hp and 104.5 tq..Here's the kicker my buddy bought a 04 SE duce at the same time.Well...you know how it goes.I gotta do something.
My locale wrench suggests this.SE heads, pop up pistons againSE and a woods gear drive cam.He said he would have to do some research as to which
one.He also suggests to enlarge the throttle bowl at a cost of about 300$.

Is this good advise? Will this set up do what I want....if not please give give suggestions. And what about the throttle bowl will I get the bang for the buck?

Thanks,Steve

Steve,
If you go for heads, it's better to get your stock heads modified by good porter than going with SE's. You will have better parts for probably less money. As far as boosting up the rest of your 95, I'm a big fan of Wood cams and getting yourself up to around 10 to 1 or maybe a bit more with either a Wood TW6HG or TW8G (maybe even TW9BG) will really have your buddy looking at your tail. Definitely go for gear drive. As far as $300 to enlarge throttle bowl?? You must have meant throttle body. If interested I have a couple of BC Gerolamy machined Delphi throttle bodies and matching manifolds on the shelf that you can have for $200 plus shipping. Stock throttle body is ok for stock and lightly modified 95". When you get to over 100 HP though, stock TB can restrict flow above around 4800 RPM on well built 95"'s. For cruisin and everyday riding though you are probably OK.

GROCK,thanks for the imput.Ok I have been told......the reason to use the SE heads is the consistency. With shops depending on who did the work,is what you get.I'm sure there is some truth to this. What are your thoughts on this. Also could you or anyone recommend a really good shop.I live in cent. calif. But once this is done will I be able to smoke the deuce?
Thanks Steve

I know you must be feeling pretty low getting outrun by…a Softail of all things. He must have got the jump on you.

Hey, your RK is making excellent HP/TQ but it wasn’t designed with drag racing in mind. Let the Dyna boys handle those irritating Softails…

But seriously, I don’t know about the gear ratios of these two bikes but that might have something to do with it. Remember, you’re hauling much more weight than that Softail. Also, is he a lighter rider than you? Shaving weight is a great performance upgrade.

Steve,

Bill Bishop, Jerry Branch, Dave Mackie, Hillside Cycle and Small Block Charlie are just a few of the good porters out there with proven and consistent design for Twin Cam heads. These are precision machine shops that put tolerances within thousands of an inch and verify flow on flowbench. SE heads are ok, but they still require a bit of cleaning up of the interior casting marks and can benefit from a porting and polishing. Also, as I said before, I believe that you may benefit from a 1.94 intake as opposed to the SE 1.90. Check out SB Charlie who does the porting, polishing and valve change for around $350-$400. You can save a little ching in your pocket for maybe roller rockers or Feuling Oil pump. If you go the TW6HG cam, get the 2 degree advance cam key to go with it. This will allow you to get to max torque just a little quicker in the power band. This set up will SMOKE your buddies 95 with 203. 95" builds like this will gain about 105 HP and better, but more important, should get you into the teens for Torque. And they will never see you coming. Engine will look bone stock.
