bigskin13 wants to know Dino or Syn?
1999 Road King EFI

I am in the process of rebuilding my motor. I decided to send it out and have it up graded. I am going to 120". Worked 110" SE Heads, new jugs, Tman 625 cams, HPI 55 mm Throttle body and HD 10.5 compression pistons. D&D Boarzilla pipes. Not sure on Air Breather yet. Need to answer the question below.

The question I have is do I switch my whole EFI to Delphi, stay with Marelli EFI or go carbureted with a bored out G S&S carb.

The MM injection will limit what kind of horsepower and torque you could make with that build. Buy the Thundermax MM replacement injection and ECM and go with the 58mm intake if you can get one. Otherwise I would do the carb.

I'd go with a carburetor.

Absolutely clear. Get rid of the mm injection. Either find a carb harness or the zippers setup fo sho

I would send your HPi 55 mm back to HPi and have them convert it to Delphi injectors MM manifold TB, I am running the S.E. race tuner and Power Commander III for fine tuning. Stay with the Magnetti Marelli system and find a good dyno tuner. my set up works great. I am also running the HPi a/c. I have no problem touring in any state with fuel available. my 120 has over 20K miles and still going strong.

HPi will convert your TB to the MM TB with delphi injectors and regulator to raise fuel press. to 60 psi for lot less than buying another TB

I spent a lot of $$$$ about 5 years ago doing a similar build on a RK with the MM injection system. No local tuners could make the bike run like I was told it would before the build. I sold the bike with a lesson learned; I should have changed to a Delpi system or a good carb. Never Again will I modify a bike with the MM system. Later Fairshake

Throwing the baby out with the bath water?
The MM system when coupled to a single throat TB and Delphi properly aimed injectors is very effective and easy to tune even for the guys that never evolved past PC III devices. If they can't tune the MM motor then I sure would not trust them on a Delphi bike.
I have converted them to carb before too and it works.

My father lives in Fla. One year I flew there and built his 99 RK with a 95" build for his bday. It made 105 hp 103 tq with the
Alfa-N system (MM) that was 7 years ago and about 80k down the road. Is it perfect? No but what efi for HD are? I have scheduled another trip to change his lifters. He said he would like to go Delfi and another build for bigger numbers. Go figure. Im not sure, hes going on 74.

The MM system is Alpha-N and that has added simplicity but less versatility in very high compression builds. Only drawback I see for lower compression builds is the hardware is getting old.

I often wonder how the baro sensor was deleted and the dual purpose map sensor was emplaced. To tell a consumer you have to shut your $18,500 bike off and reinitialize it thru altitude changes still floors me. Speed density with a baro and a lamda or oxygen sensors were well emplaced by the early eighties. Why they went the route they did I feel is they felt forced into efi and only did the minimum necessary to pass some sort of board decision. Then signed the lowest bidder.
