I always knew H-D would have to liquid cool the engines. I also knew that they would do it in the most traditionally esthetic way, and they have. But this effort can be only a stop-gap measure. The engine is basically the same engine from 2013 with coolant passages in the (new) heads, and nicely integrated radiators and fans. You can spot the rogue coolant hose but really the bike is visually the familiar Harley.
It's a stop gap measure because it's fundamentally an air cooled engine except for the heads. Most parts of the engine are subject to the wide temperatire swings of this design, meaning that they cannot take advantage of a completely temperatire controlled system allowing for tighter tolerences.
Enjoy it while you can. I don't know how long it'll be, but complete liquid cooling is inevitable and the visual cues of the traditional Harley engine will slowly fade away as we insist on more power and reliability.
