Woods TW8 cams

I am upgrading my 96 to 103 with ported heads, compression to 9.9-1. The builder is recommending TW8 cams from Woods. Does anyone here have those cams installed? What are the positives and/or any negatives on the TW8's?

Tick, tick, tick with those TW8 cams. Did I mention tick, tick, tick?
Bobby slams the back door on the 8 cam...which produces valvetrain noise...no way around it.
On a quieter note...Tman 590's, or the Fueling 574's would be a choice of quieter cams that will perform just as well.
I believe BVBOB on the forum here (noted tuner) went from the TW8's to the Tman 590's in his personal bike...he would be a good guy to pm and ask your question which would probably have dyno results on both to compare.
Just my 2 cents...from No Cents

117" Darkhorse build...all smiles!!!

Positives: great power producers, American made
Negatives, overly aggressive ramps, valve train noise, overpriced. Oh and did I mention valvetrain noise.
First off 9.9 to 1 is not enough compression for that cam, I would suggest either the Andrews 54 or T-man 590 Possibly the S&S 570

Doesnt the TMan 590 cams require 10.5 + compression to really shine?

both the woods 8 and the t-man 590 would be happy at 10-5 thru 10-8 compression

Yes, absolutely, I guess I should have mentioned I have ran both at 10.8 to 1 with no issues.

I have them in my 98" and they are right about ticking. I am in the process of trying to decide what to swap them for, thinking about the Tman 625's.

One of my top pick cams for making big power.. Off set is that most of todays customers will not put up with the cam noise. Still a kicker for power.. pulls hard from the low rpm range up high.. In a 107 kit with comp ratio in the 10.4 range Based on what fuel you have it will pull like a freight train.

" the S&S 570"

At 9.9:1, be a good choice.

Great power but tick tick tick clack clack clack,if you do go with the W-8 10.5:1 works best.

Beauty and ticking are in the eye and ear of the beholder.

Been told the 9b I'm running is loud, but not to me. Reminds me of a solid lifter hotrod muscle car - and I always liked that sound.

Wood makes some good cams and the 8 is one of his best, esp in the application you describe.
