Depends on your budget and what you want. Mine is 2004 95" Road King, Wood TW6G cam, Hillside heads, 9.8 to 1 compression, bored throttle body, S&S pushrods, D&D FatCat exhaust. Right around 100 HP and torque. You could do it cheaper using an Andrews 37 cam, less head work, stock throttle body, stock pushrods and probably still be above 90 HP.

That's a dynamite build! The torque curve is straight up, and straight across! I run mine with a touch more compression

That's impressive for the amount spent. Good torque where you need it.
To the OP, what ever you do make sure you get a good tuner to get the most from your build. I'd shop for someone to tune it before I did the build. Do your homework 'cause the person that tunes it can make or break a good build.

That bike had beehive springs as OEM so it was a simple bolt.. All in all I agree very good power.

Actually boreing to 95 and a a bit of head work to bump the comp to about 10:1 works wonders and is less than $1K, problem is you then need a TTS and a tune for another $900 which takes you to around $2k for the whole build.
I have NO REGRETS! and got respectable numbers...
35k miles on the build and still rolling with NO issues. When I tightened the last screw back then and fired it up, it has never been messed with since...not one hickup

Thanks for all the input, lots of ideas. I like the boring of my own jugs. Any issues on balance of pistons?

No problem with piston balance if using the SE 95 inch stuff.
My favorite budget build
SE A/C or Big sucker
Andrews 37 cams
Street port heads, stock valves 83cc chambers
Cylinders bored to 95
Last but not least a good exhaust and tune.
Easy 105 tq and low 90's hp but most importantly torque where you need it.

Yea Bob but thats not sexy no black panther cam and cool stuff to tell your buddys about.. I am just messing around.. That same idea for us other than I love the 98 kit as it has always increased the tq curve.. But some times the budget is king..

This is what I run. 95" ported heads,se flat top pistons, mik 42,thunderheader,woods tw6 with 4* gear and 3.37 gearing.92hp/102tq. Added se 1.7 rocker arms, 93hp/112tq. By adding the rocker arm's,I got 10ft of tq.But would like more hp.And believe me today,I am on a budget(wife).

i did my 95" in two parts. first andrews 37g's, se flat tops, pc 3-usb, vh 2 into 2. i tuned out @ 92/102. i came back last winter and pulled it apart again. this time i sent my heads into bean. got the heads cut to 80cc and a street port. that bumped me up to the 9.8 for the cams i run. this is good. dumped the 2 into 2 for d&d fatcats and a set of se adj pushrods. retuned out at 100/104. it is not the 130/130+ i am looking for but maybe next time. with a few more "!!!

Bore to 98", mild beadwork and Andrews 37 - Wood 6 class cam, suitable exhaust are the best value and bang for the buck when starting with 88" motor.
Big power is nice, but for a good-running, fun-to-ride, reliable daily driver - absolute best bang for the buck. Been there, done that.

how much "seat of pants" difference did you feel after head port and comp increase?
thanks
