Exhaust heat

How hot is the exhaust when it come out of the head and into the pipe.

I am looking to make a Carbon Fiber exhaust system. Pipe and muffler. Currently I am looking at the heat shield to be made from Carbon Fiber. I would rather have the whole system done.

I need to know the temp of the exhaust so I can find a resin which will not melt when used.

thank you for your thoughts,

Glenn

With all due respect, if you are asking for exhaust temp, maybe engineering isn't going to be your thing.

I would think you could see gas temps approaching 1500 F, but of course a typical safety factor would be be about 2.

Take a sample of the exhaust you want to use and see if it will withstand fire.Have never heard of resins that will withstand heat like that.

You may want to speak with Jamie at Fuel Moto about this, he offers a carbon fiber slip on muffler for baggers. The heat a few inches out of the head and at the muffler are two different things though.

EGT's (exhaust temps) are shown here in Cyl#1, and Cyl#2 coming right out of the head.
This is from a high performance HD motor I used to run but 1,000-1,200 degrees is a good estimate.

Thanks guys. This will not work. Back to thinking about heat shield or exhaust pipe covers or replacement to the crome.

Man, even formula 1 cars that have carbon fiber EVERYTHING use stainless headers??? Shields, no problem.
