Beat a dead horse

I dont want to beat a dead horse but I have been looking for an older evo softail but I just cant find any in my area. I went all last year without riding but I have to get one for next riding season and because of the situation it will have to be a twincam. So I know many have different beliefs about them but what is the most reliable TC out there. I know alot of guys think the 2002 are because of the crank bearing.

heading for 60k on my 2000, I think that the TC is a good engine no mater the year, just look for something low mileage and have fun

94k on my 04. Put in geared cams @30k and haven't looked back.

I know some people are sketchy about it but have you considered buying outside your area and having it shipped to you? I bought a bike on eBay and had it shipped to a local freight forwarder for about $400....

That said I have 75k on my 2000 and it's still going strong...

I had a brain fart and sold my FXR and then could never find another that was any good, well I thought anyway.
A buddy let me borrow his TC 88 and I would have never thought but I liked it better than the evo.
Now I swear by them, open your mind some the TC is a good engine and an excellent actor.

I didn't care for my TC when I first got it. After I dialed in the mixture and addressed the cam issue I find it hard to distinguish throttle response and torque from my EVO.

Plenty of horror stories about potential problems, but there are multitudes of very high mileage TC's out there. Find yourself a garage queen that someone has spent more time polishing than riding. If it's pre 07, do something with the cam chain tensioners. Change the cam bearings to Timken no matter what year it is, even if you find an EVO, upgrade the inner cam bearing.

If you want to get picky about something think about looking for a carb'ed engine vs fuel injection. Especially on the early models.

my 2002 has gone 96k,bought it new.Left the engine stock except for stage 1.replaced the original tensioner shoes at 75k,I'll probably go to the hydraulic setup next time,now that I have another bike to ride.
