Reusable. Different thicknesses vs. the cometic gaskets. I'm using the .026". Supposedly helps pinging, because they transfer the heat better, but that is a tuff one to prove.

I run copper gaskets ..................just need to use a hi temp sealant like coppercoat or graphite grease on both sides ..... no other issues.

Hemrick gaskets are set to the exact bore diameter........

I see no reason to bother with them. The MLS and stock gaskets are reliable unless the surface is not flat, the torque is wrong, or the engine parameters cause a lack of gasket surface area, EG 4.25 bore stock bolt pattern. The Copper would not navigate those waters any better.

My question to the forum, if I was brainstorming alternatives, would be why not use the stock, James, Cometic, or Cyco composite gasket for the reason of LESS heat conductivity.

Nitram_b4 is reading this now saying WTF is this?
after using cometic gaskets there would have to be some major benefit to get me to change, I have their head gaskets in now, but what sold me on them is their rocker box gaskets, Had nothing but issues trying to get james gaskets to seal, switched them with Cometic and sealed no problem. Both my front and rear leaked and I tried several times to get them to seal before I switched them out to Cometic and they sealed without issue first time

I must be odd man out, I have not had any issues with James or the other stock style gaskets, even on some very healthy compression motors except is there was a mechanical reason why. EVOs did blow gaskets for example but the studs were pulling.

.028- .032 is ideal squish for 'normal' motors {9 - 1 to 10.5 -1 comp.} Cometic stocks a .027 head gasket for most twin cam bores = 3 3/4 - 3 7/8 - 4 - 4 1/8 etc. Remember , that your cyl. 'stretch' ! The EVO's were stretching as much as .060+ {Jerry Branch test} and that was one of the reasons they had so much trouble with base and head gaskets. NOW, the twin cam is different , BUT, not that much ! I have yet to see a test on them, but I will bet you a doughnut, that they stretch .040+ ,so if you have a stock hg {.052} and your cyl. stretchs .040 , you have a .090+ 'gap' in your combustion chamber and the air-fuel hides in there and BINGO. Ping,Ping,Ping. I have personally 'fixed' the pinging on a stock 2000 FLHT , by switching to Cometic .030 hg. Its ALL about the burn baby. Heres a test for you= Park a shovel -pan in a small shop and fire it up. 30 seconds and you can not breath from gas fumes. NOW, clear the air and park a twin cam in there with a .030 hg. You can be in there for 30 MINUTES ! Stench
