Carburetor rebuild and Stage 1 kit

Ok, I am looking to rebuild the CV carb from a 2000 Duece and then put in a Stage 1 kit, but the Stage 1 parts and rebuild kit have some similar gaskets etc, but not all the same. Also, i have been told that i should replace the float, but i can't seem to find a kit with a float.
Any thoughts on the stage 1 and rebuild and also about whether or not i need the float.
p.s. Iam in Okinawa Japan and don't have good access to parts.
Regards.

I believe Honda and Kawasaki use that same carb on some of their models if that helps.
There's parts to be had everywhere all over the net too.

You don't need to replace the float unless the one you have is damaged. Main jet, slow jet and needle is all you should need. Take the plug out of the idle mixture screw, if it hasn't been done already and adjust it out about two turns. then turn it in untill it begins to stumble and then back it out until the idle is at it's highest point then give it another half turn. Reset your idle to about 900 rpm's and your good to go.

Good advice from the others. If you're talking about putting in some kind of kit from Harley like the Dynojet kit, I'd hold off on that.

If the engine is basically stock other than exhaust and air cleaner, all you really need to do is adjust the air/fuel mixture screw and either replace the needle with a better one or shim it. Stock CV carbs are generally good at the slow jet and main jet and only need help in the transition/mid-range area.

All, thanks for the input. The engine is stock except for Khrome werks 3hp slipons, and Screaming eagle air filter. I thought i would throw in a Stage 1 kit for the carb, and just wanted some input.

You can enlarge the air bleed holes in the slide to .125 for better throttle response. you can also cut three coils off the spring too.

I would recommend replacing the intake seals.

I just did this and the throttle response is great. Easy mod that really perks things up.

Stage 1 vs Sportster Needle

Have a 2000 Deuce with Khromeworks 3hp slipons, SE breather kit, and Sportster needle from a 1988 or '89 1200 Sportster (HD part #27094-88).
I just purchased a CV Stage 1 kit for the carb, and would like to know the difference in the needle from the kit, and Sportster needle, also do i need to install the entire CV kit and other jets or just keep the sportster needle and install some of the other jets etc etc. I've been reading that the slow jet is mostly ok for most applications. Most of my riding is around town with some touring. I am not looking for a rocket, just better performance. I know i should have asked this before ordering the kit, but !!!!

You should use the entire kit with their jets, or none of the kit and the sportster needle. I'm pretty sure you have a dyno jet kit which replaces the emulsion tube and the jets are not compatable with H-D's.
Please let me know who's stage one kit you bought because it makes a difference on what you should do next.

I agree. If you start mixing and matching, you'd better know exactly what your doing.
