FLTRSE3CLONE wants to know Dino or Syn?
107ci Dependability question

My question is would a 107ci be a motor that you could build & run for multiple riding seasons? I know its a thin bore so what would one have to do make it less apt to create problems while riding? I'm asking because when it comes to HD performance I'm not that knowledgable. Thanks in advance.

Oh oh. I smell ....clone getting antsy to increase the size of his 103. Didn't you just get your 103 running great last summer? Stroker are you ready? I think .....clone will be making another trip up your way. Great minds must think alike. I have been having winter fantasies about 107" myself.

In answer to your question, what I have been told is this. To avoid the theoretical problem of thin cylinder walls when boring the 3.875" HD cylinders you should get the S&S 106" kit. Having said that, I will also say that Randy at Hyperformance and others have assured me that they have had zero problems boring the HD cylinders to 107".

BVBob and myself answered that question by having S&S 106 cylinders bored to fit new +.010 pistons. almost 20k with no problems.

I've watched closely for almost two years and have NOT heard of a catastrophic failure. Wear failure analysis will take a bit of time, but I am looking to add another 20-25k to mine this year.

I would think by now either Scott at Hillsides or Randy at Hyperformance would have found customers with wear issues.... haven't heard of any from those guys. (Guydoc) answered while I was typing!!!

I assume your boring the s&s 106 cyl to correct the out of round bore concerns? Thats the reason I didnt go with them originally & just had my 96 cyl bored.

We have done too many of these to count now. No wear issues. But if you have a 103 leave it alone.

I've wondered about the cylinder thickness too with a 107" bore? I went the 103" route mostly because I was cheap as I got new SE 103" flat tops for $120. I doubt I'd ever go to a 107" from a 103". Some say maybe a 5/5 gain for the expense? I think that would be the time I save some pennies and bite the 117" > route...

I don't think I'd pull a good running 103 down to go to 107 either. I too am concerned about the thin sleeve resulting from boring a HD cylinder this big, so I've never done it, (use the S&S cylinders) but many have with no issues, so It's probably fine.

Tim. I think you are confusing the 106 S&S cly's, with what some have seen with the SE bigger bore cly's.(4.060).
I haven't seen the out of round on either of these cly's myself. maybe they stepped up the game with the SE bigger bore cly's with the 120r program. I dont know for sure, but I can tell you they map-ed out fine.
that said. unless you have a problem with the 103, as others have said I wouldnt just swap to a 106/107.
got 30,000+ on my S&S 106 with no problems. FWIW.

And we are all talking big bore as oposed to stroker 106 S&S?

Just to avoid any confusion......

The 3.932 bore has been very reliable for my customers

"I know its a thin bore"
Nope, just the spigot, the sleeve is still stable and not thin.

Who makes the 107 piston? I have my crank at darkhorse and have 37,000 miles on bike so instead of honing and re-ringing maybe i will just go with the 107 all bore idea. Thanks
