Thinking about SE 254e cam
I've been looking at the new Screaming Eagle 254e cam and wondering if it's for me. I talked to three Harley shops today and not one of them knew anything about it. One shop argued with me insisting that the Ultra Limited had 9.2 compression. I guess we know how that went. Looking at the specs, it looks really weird. They claim it is a torque cam but a 43 degree intake close would tend to indicate otherwise. Maybe I'm just way off base with that.
I've also heard you have to add compression. I'm already at 9.7 on my Ultra limited, wondering how much more compression I really need. I don't drag race, I do long distance touring loaded down most of the time. Does anyone know whether or not this will work for me?

So, how does something get proven unless somebody uses it?

That's what HD claims for it in the specs.

Nah
New HD SE cam.
Math!
Later intake close= less cylinder pressure = loss in low end torque
Added overlap same scenario.
Change the cam if you like but don't expect any windfall differences from the stock well tuned bike with a good pipe. And the warranty stays intact, that SE cam is not "Street Legal"

What are you saying exactly? HD claims that the cam is the same as the 96". At least that's what the customer service line rep told me...I can't get a straight answer as to the cam in an FLHTK from the dealer ( he wants to sell me an SE-255) or the MOCO fools. The CR is 9.7 on these 103's though...they have ACR heads as well (not the SE ones).

The 103's in the LTD, Police and Trike are just a bored 96". They use the same heads except they have ACR's and the cams are the same as what is in the 96" engine. I cross checked the part numbers for the cams for the 96" & 103" and they are the same part number.

They can't be "just" a bored 96". The compression is a lot higher, and I know the Moco doesn't use .030 head gaskets, so something else must be different. Has anyone cross-checked the part numbers for the pistons?

its not "alot" higher, only a half a point... the flat top pistons add a bit more compression, thats expected... the SE catalog states they make it 10:1, which is probably exaggerated, the 9.7 is probably more accurate...

The 96" is a 3.750 bore with a 4.375 stroke the 103" is a 3.875 bore with a 4.375 stroke.... A bored out 96". The factory head gasket is .045, don't know what pistons they are using in the assembly line 103's vs the SE 103 pistons, I do know the part numbers are different.

Put a SE204 in it and be done after a good tune. It will perform better right off idle and up plus run cooler. Assumes a good pipe is installed.

Nothing wrong with the SE204, does a good job.

2nd that 100% I think it's a underated cam if you have to stick with SE for warranty purposes.
Cheers
