Andrews cam conversion kit

Snowing outside....time to start wrenching.
Has anyone out there installed the Andrews cam plate conversion kit as featured in Hot Bike? I have an 05 Softail. Is it worth it to upgrade as HD did in later models. I dont want the gear cams. But I'm concerned about the tech experience needed to do the work. I have average skills and want to wrench on my bike. Is the work an unbolt and bolt on process? I dont have the ability to press on and machine parts.
Thanks for the help. I've been pouring over all the discussions....you guys are great.... but I need to go find a job, get off this computer and get back to work!

You will want to change the inner cam bearings and you will need something to pull them and install them. There are tools for this, about $200 but some people have gotten by without the tools. If you consider doing without the tools be careful not to loose any bears in the crank case. You do not have to press the cams into the outter bearings they just float. You have to align the oil pump, there are dowels ($30) for this but not nessesary.

I took my cams, bearing and plate to an indy shop and they pressed them in for $27. i bought the inner bearing remover/installer from phatperformance part.com for $260, it's a nice tool. The nice thing is if you buy the tool, you can do the cams for your friends and make money :-) if not sell it on ebay. Also get a set of bolt cutters for the pushrods.

The conversion cams are essentially roller chain cams with 7/8'" inner diameters and use '07 and later support plates - they slip fit right into the support plate, nothing to press in.

Appreciate the response. Lots of good links and "threads" on cams. I assume everyone is happy with the performance they got out of the work. Still researching....working up the nerve to tear into it.
Thanks
