Cam Spacers

Why the different thickness spacers for different cams? Aren't there specs for these cams, same length and dimensions for cams for a certain application?
I know there may be some difference from one manufacturer to another but why for difference in the same manufacturer.

Always .100 in the front usually .110 the rear
