Need Suggestions
OK, so I learned my lesson. Did the Moco 103HO build, made some decisions based on what I thought would work for my riding style and thought I'd be satisfied. BUT after over 4K miles this summer, it needs improvement. The bike will go back to the shop sometime late next month for upgrades to make it right. Question is can I solve this with a cam changeout and exhaust switch or do I have to get more involved?
My current build is:
103 Big bore
SE ACR heads 2.08/1.63
10.5-1 forged pistons
258 SE cam
SE high flow intake
Stock TB
Supertrapp SE Exhauset
SERT
Bike only made 99TQ/93HP on the Dyno with the above. Disappointed but the exhaust was largely to blame. The TQ comes on too late for my taste but it was fun when keeping the RPM's high.
I'll be changing the exhaust to the SuperTrapp 2-1 with Tuneable disks. I'm also going to upgrade to the SEST so I can eliminate the ETC lag. The 258 cam has to go. It's too lazy down in the low rpms. With this cam and the big heads, I know the compression is lacking and the airflow may be out of whack too but not sure how to solve this puzzle now.
Can I get by with just the cam changeout to maybe a 251 or 257? Maybe an aftermarket cam would be a better fit? Warranty will be up by the time spring rolls around so I'm not limiting myself to HD parts anymore. Am I screwed with the SE heads? Can you bore out a 103?
Appreciate suggestions.

I'm running a T-Man 625 cam with 10.5:1 compression. I've got power everywhere...100 ft-lbs or more from 3000-6000 rpm, and they're not noisy like the Woods cams tend to be. I've also got a 55mm HPI throttle body to feed the cams.
Consider a TTS Mastertune instead of the SEST.

check your cranking pressure, see if your compression really is 10.5:1... u should be around 195-200... that 258 cam is too much for even 10.5 ... a 251 or the new 259 should wake it up down low... really depends on what your cranking pressure/compression ratio really is...

with the right compression may change your mind about your parts. i saw a similar setup, except carbed make 120/120 with the same cams at 11:1 compression, t-header, se heads with big valves ported by fairbanks, not sure if they're the same heads as yours, se 51 mm carb. made 100lbs from 3000-6000rpm. i thought that was damn good, for .565 lift cam.

the 258 is a huge cam and performs poorly in the rpm range that we use on the street (2000-3500)...i have the 257 cam in a 110" dyna now and it makes good peak numbers, but is still kinda inpractical for just putting around...my last bike was a road king with a 103" and 251 cams and i liked it
i believe you'll be much happier with a shorter cam like se251 or t-man 590...with a good 2 into 1 pipe and tune it will feel like a new bike

In my 103 build I used a Red Shift 575 cam by Zippers and with stock CVO heads was getting 103 Hp and 105 Tq.

A Wood 7H(which is VERY quiet)would be our choice, set at 10-10.2 cr.
