Cam Help
Wanting to install cams this winter. I have a 07 FXST. S/E air, V/H short shots staggered with quiet baffles that have been rewrapped more for more backpressure, PC III.
Thinking of Andrews TW-26H, Crane HTC-300, Kuryakyn TC-1 ,Andrews TW-37H, Crane HTC-310, Kuryakyn TC-2, CycleRama CR-3 then next year port and polish the heads Thanks for any help

Are you staying at 96 "? If so on the light bike I would consider the 26, otherwise go to 103 and use the andrews 54, would be a great idea to do it all at one time and match up the cam/compression ratio.

those pipes and cam choices will defeat each other, more so if you dont match heads/compression. if you just wanna toss in cams now, you will gain more by going back to oem pipes.

Let me know if you can get those crane cams
FWIW, I'd avoid those Krappyakyn products too.

problem is, the cams will lay down on you as the motor gets on those pipes. with the baffles, its anybodys guess. it may work great! BUT it cant be known till you actually do it. not knocking, but you may spend the money to discover you didnt get what you thought. this happens more times than not with a self designed build. listen to your builder, dont deviate, dont order parts till you know it will work, and you never know if your builder needs to edit the parts list.
only tryin to save you haedaches man. 10 #lbs TQ is a bunch! and 500 rpm into the meat of the curve is a bunch!
my advice---slow down, find a builder you trust, and go with his advice. something as simple as pipes vs cams can make or break a build. think about this---- you go several months with your pipes and a 37 cam, you are not making power where ya ride, and the motor cant be tuned well. imagine the rings getting washed because the tuner had to put extra fuel in the early rpm's to try and make her run well. by the time you pay to get headwork, or realize the pipes are sounding bad because parts arent matched, you have become dissapointed, so you decide to go a different build. you just paid twice and she still aint right.
it aint about dyno numbers, and it aint about whos faster, its about being happy with your investment----happens everyday!

This suggestion does however bridge the gap pretty darn good.
It may sound like the same old speech to many, but a Wood 6, with a 4* advance gear, then when you are ready to go forward with the next level, yank the gear out, and you'll be in like Flynn.

.
throw in a set of 26's for now
Quote:

then next year port and polish the heads
|
at this time do a BB and reconsider your cam choice.
you can then sell your 26's for 1/2 the price you paid for them.
if your doing your own work not much spent to ride a year with the cam upgrade. If paying for the labor then as others have stated slow down save up and do it all at once.

Cam install is no problem for most at home. You can do it.

Ahh. I've been quietly eyeballing that 296-2 but don't know if it's available anymore??? Knew S&S bought them but last time I tried to get some of their stuff from the Drag book I couldn't.
