Stage 4 or STage 5 R&R Heads

Can anyone tell me what the differences are between these two options besides cost.

I believe stage 4 are your own heads reworked and stage 5 are their own cast heads.

The stage 5 heads flow a tad better than the stage 4. Worth the extra $$$ (which isn't that much more) your call. I went with the
5's, not worth looking back and wondering. However, knowing what I know now I would have saved a little longer and bought the billet heads, no better performance but they are beautiful!

Yep. I have the stg V (cast) heads. They weren't a whole lot more money than the stg IV (your own). They are a nice piece of workmanship. The stg V heads have raised floors in the intakes. They can get better velocity and therefore better cylinder fill than your reworked heads.

Has anyone checked out the Zipper 2.0 CNC heads, they are offering what they call a stage 2 head equivlent to stage 5 or 4 from everyone else but has a combustion chamber shaped like a Pro Stock head. Cost for the Zipper head is about the same as R&R.

For those that may be concerned about apearance. The stage 5 casting is a little rough. The fin thickness is irregular and uneven. If you can afford it, go with the billets.

R&R web site states cast heads have 1.940 inlets and 1.625 exhaust, stock bolt configuration billet heads the same and oval port billet heads to suit their motors uses 2.150 inlets and 1.725 exhaust.

I own a set of R&R cast heads and I like them. Just beware that the breather bolt locations are not the same as stock. Therefore air cleaner mounting turns into a custom fit project.

You need the older style mounting bracket like I have on my 04' FLHRCI. The newer style cast mounting bracket can't be tweaked like the older style chrome plated steel bracket.

The welded and cnc ported stage 4 have a 1.900" intake valve and can be used with stock intake. These heads rev very fast and the torque comes on quick. The stage 5 R&R heads have a 1.940" intake valve and need an intake to match the larger 1.800" port. The torque comes on a little later (600-800 rpm) than the stage 4 but there is more of it, approx. 10 ft. lbs.
