For those that run open air filters

I picked up a neat trick on one of the boards last year that I finally tried this spring. When getting my black bike last year I no longer cared for the pink air filter. After finding some blue oil the filter looked better. But the "better" only lasted a few weeks until the sun bleached off the oil color.

The trick I tried was using dye (like you would dye a T-shirt with).

I was impressed. After months of riding the color stood fast! No more re oiling until it was ready to get the bugs washed out.

Now we are only limited by the color of oil we can get (so far I have only seen blue, red or yellow available in oil).

Hint: Go for the brightest you can find in your color, the oil will darken it a little.

Makes total sense. The air filters are made of cotten fibers. Ty-dye would be killer....

I believe I posted that remedy here or some other forum quite some time ago for someone that didn't like his red SE Heavy Breather . Glad to know some of this crap I dream up works. I used to dye my fuel lines back in the 70s too, to match the paint job. That's where I got the idea. Down side is you won't get the visual clue to reoil since it won't bleach out now. A good maintanance program will take care of this.
Ron
