cam gear problem

I finally got my motor back. 107 with R & R crank. I go to put the cams in and check the gear alignment and with the biggest spacer 150, The cam gear is still 17 thou too far back. WTF I tried my old cam plate and was about the same. I really need some suggestions on how to fix this. I can't believe after all the money I spent on this that something like this would come up. Just my friggin luck I guess

cam gear too far back, or timken spacer not correct----pinion too far out? not saying anything, but you need to identify the problem. if situation two happened to be correct, the pistons will side load.

Snap some pics so we can see...Is this a 5 piece crank? Were there any special instructions about fitment?

My guess would be that the pinion is too far out since it lined up before. The comp is also too far in to get the front sprocket lined up with the clutch. So, how can it be fixed?

Yes it's the 5 piece crank and it's the same cam support plate and cams. I didn't see the other two posts. I hade the 107 kit done with stage three heads. I need to move everything over about .010 and it would all be good but not sure how. also had the timkin done.

Is this to align chain drive sprockets for the cams I assume? For the old spring loaded tensioners?

d1hojo, a thought, have you torqued the sprocket bolt yet? if not, that could be the problem, .010 aint much and may resolve itself when tightening the motor sprocket and loading the timkens.

That's my baby. She's a red nosed pit, no papers just spoiled rotten I got a hold of Steve and then he got a hold of reggie at R&R. I guess the R&R cranks are built with longer pinion snouts for gear drive cams Reggie is cutting some spacers and sending them to me tommarow to get the gears lined up. I'm not real happy about it but he says there will be no problem doing this. I havn't read about this anywhere and it kind of pisses me off. It took 8 weeks to get my motor back and now this.

no difference in pinion ength for gears, if that was so, thousands of stock cranks would have to be lengthened. cutting spacers? shims to correct too long pinion? say it aint so.
