Which cams best for 103ci

Looking for knowledgable advise on which cams to run in my 96 RKC that has the big bore to 103.
SE compresson pistons 10:5-1, SERT, thunderheaders.
Running SE251 cams right now, lot of noise......not really inpressed with torque until 3000rpm.
good advise appreciated...thanks.

I'd suggest the Wood 7H.

What type of cylinder heads are you using? Do you have comp. releases?
What is your cranking cylinder pressure? Those are the most important questions to ask before anybody can start to recommend a cam

Probably has alot to do with the thunderheader. Has your tuner done any tweaking to the baffle?

Cams

Is that compression actual or assumed? We have had very good luck with the Andrews 54 if chain or even better the RR525G. Even better with our stage 2-1/2 head work with an actual compression of 10.2:1 compression and .030" to .035" squish.

cardshark is an unknown quantity at this point
with a tad bit more compression a wood 8 would be nice.

Also--double check your compression, with the stock set-up it may be less than you think--at which point a wood 6 would also be nice. Hillside seems to be the king of wood cams....so i woul defer to scott

Calcs

It looks like in the picture in the SE book that that piston has a 3 or 4 cc dome, that would probably not come to 10.5 to 1, more like 10.2 to 1.

stock heads don't have auto comp releases... and like others said, check the compression, as u may not really have the stated 10.5... the 251 cam should work great with a 'real' 10.5 comp...

The SE251 cams do make noise. I wouldn't count on the Woods be any different.

If you want to keep the money under control, have your heads set up for 251 cams you have. They have a great power band.

Well in fact there are stock heads with auto release's . They are standard for the police bikes and I have been seeing a ton of them come through for porting in the last few months. Nothing special about the head other than they are set up for auto comp release.

Chris

Running the Tw6-g's in my 98in build. The difference in noise levels between my fathers valve train on his stock 96 and mine is negligeable at best. Have heard lots of people complain about noisey cams, guess I got lucky.

If we can assume(without actually cc'ing the heads, and actually measuring/cc'ing the dome volume of the pistons) somewhere between 10.2 and 10.5, then the 7H is still your man.
