Need some upgrade advice for my twin cam 88"
Hey guys, this is my first post but i have been reading and learning from you guys for quite awhile. I must say, the level of maturity and respect in here is second-to-none and very hard to come buy on internet forums. That being said, here's the reason for this post.
I've got a 2005 EFI Fatboy, 88", with a set of staggered rineharts, a screamin eagle intake with a k&n filter, and a power commander pcIII. My riding is pretty evenly split between two-up with my fiance riding around town and a little country roads, and 70 mph solo highway riding. I'm looking for the best bang for buck to get some extra scoot in the usable everyday power band. I've read a lot about 95 kits, headwork, cams, etc. and am curious what i should start with, and proceed from there. I'll do some work myself, but my father is friends with a "shadetree mechanic" who has been working on bikes for 20 years, does top-notch work, stands by what he does, and charges next to nothing.
I've gone through countless posts but haven't really seen anything specific for my use. Like i said before, i'm looking for usuable power for my style of riding, top horsepower at 7000 rpm is nice, but i RARELY see that rpm range! Just looking for best bang for my buck.....95" only?? andrews cams?? headwork?? I need some help processing all the info i've gotten. Thanks in advance for all your help.

All I can tell you is that when I got a 95 I loved it, for about 2 months... then I wanted more. My honest advice would be to estimate what you need, then add about 50%. You will never regret it, within reason.
Bigger is better.... 103, 107, 117, 124, 131 etc.

Welcome to the forum. For your location, that's kind of a no-brainer.
Get in touch with Randy, king of cubes.

A 95" with an Andrews 26 or 37 and a street port will run nicely.... and give you a nice increase from where you are at without costing too much.

98", Wood 6 or Andrews 37, and a good set of heads.
If more is wanted that that, then a Wood 8 and our Stage III Head.

Stop in and ride one of our demo bikes and look at the stage kits, you'll go home with a big grin on your face.

If I was to do one thing at a time (which probably isn't the best way to go about this) what would you guys suggest doing first. Oh, and Randy @ king of cubes, depending on what i find out as far as how much performance i can get for my $$, i might just make the trip and have you take all the guess work out of it for me....depending on cost of course.
To clarify, it looks like i could probably push the cubes up to 95", install a new cam, and send the heads off for some work, and keep the price relatively low and still have a quality job. The labor won't be very much from the guy i know, and i can do some of it myself. I don't wanna go cheap, but i don't necessarily wanna break the bank either.

I went through the same thing you're going through (although for
different reasons)
I have an 88 (2006) SoftTail. Did alot of stuff along the way up
to now, and the biggest bang for the buck was a tossup between
the cams (37Gs) and the D&D FatCat pipe.
Porting helped as well but not as much as the pipe and cam change
so if it were me, I would get the cams changed first. The rest is
easy...
2 cents....

Maddog55-If i change out the cam first, would i need to use one for stock compression, or put one in that would be compatible with a 95" and mild head work, if i chose to do it later?

That's a quick and to the point. Removes plenty of doubt right up front.

Probably not what you want to hear, but you can save yourself a lot of aggravation
and money by waiting until you can get the head, cam and 95" work done
all together. Tear it down once, put it together once, and one tune.

My buddy Ariel's '06 street glide is running 98" with Andrews 37, street ported heads, rinehart true duals, SE intake and it is a pretty quick bike, especially for a heavy touring machine.

Yeah, i assumed getting it all done in one shot would be the best bet, but patience in a virtue i don't possess!! So i've read a lot of good things about Big Boyz in regards to head work, pairing that up with a 95" kit, what cam would you guys suggest for the type of riding i listed earlier? I've got the air going in, and the exhaust leaving covered, as well as an efi management system to tie it all together. I know it would probably be easier to just do a stage 2 kit somewhere, but im trying to keep the cost somewhere close to earth.

From all I know the Woods 6 or Andrews 37 are PERFECT for a well tuned 95" twin cam...
