Reasons why not

to use a S&S.570 in a 113"?

Looks close to a Woods 6, (except for some exhaust events and lift), which is used in motors up to 117" . Would the .570, not fall off as soon as the 6?

The numbers do not tell the whole story. The ramp rates are also very different between the two cams. The Wood cam opens and closes quicker and is a more agressive profile even though the numbers appear similar. That is the reason for the famed Wood cam noise, as compared to other cams. I have never seen a back to back run with the 570 and the TW-6, but my guess is the 6 will make better power earlier and may fall off a little sooner, as well. Overall peak power, I would guess, would go to the Wood cams by a pretty decent margin. That being said, I am not sure I would use a TW-6H in a 117 inch motor. I would personally say the 8 is the minimum I would use in a 117, with the 9 series being even better with good flowing heads.

I have run the 570 since 01 in a softail and now in my touring..

It is a good cam.. comes on pretty quick and will easily last to the rev limiter..
It does however need some fair compression (9.8 to 1 minimum) to work well.. 10.3 to 10.5 is best..
It works extremely well with the S&S heads.. It will give you an excelent power curve..
Again however you do give up some of the bottom end to achive this..
The 570 does not like a real restrictive exhaust... and does not like stock heads very well.. some porting and cleaning up would be best. and for about the same kind of money you can get the S&S heads..

Sorry but no real experience with the Woods cam....

Did you ever change out to the Woods? If so, please tell your results. Thanks

I'm not running either. My inquiry was for a guy doing a new build. I think he decided to go with T-Man.
