Building an Evo
Here is a list of what I have:
1995 FXDWG and baker six speed
SE heads-1.94 int, 1.625 exh. hand ported by me.
(275 cfm at .600 lift at 28" of water)
Andrew's EV27
Adjustable pushrods
S&S HVHP pressure oil pump (trashed)
Jim's lifters and lifter blocks
S&S shorty carb
What I need:
Cases
Flywheel and rods (stock stroke is ok)
Pistons
Jugs (3.625)
Goal: Street bike that makes around 100 hp, 100 ft/lbs tq. Just for cruising around mainly. Right around 10.5:1 preferred.
What does everyone recommend for Cases? S&S, Delkron, Ultima? I was thinking either Wiseco, JE and SE for pistons. Where is the best place to get flywheel and rods?
Not too worried about cost, I want this motor to last a while and not give me any problems.
Scott

I like Delkron or S&S for the cases. I'd probably use S&S (if not stock) for flywheels....personally, I like the 89" stroker wheels.
Good luck with the power you're looking for using the components mentioned...

96" Power
Sounds like your a candidate for an S&S 96" short block assembly.
Re-work your EVO castings, and with something as simple as an EV-27/Wood 6 cam, CV carb, slip-on mufflers, you'll be mid 90's hp and roll well over 100 ft lbs over a very broad band. No "map" needed.

Didn't think of that. Good suggestion. Less money.

Where is the best place to order a short block? That doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. Would there be any quality issues with Ultima? Anyone have any experiences with their short blocks or even complete engines?

I have finished off and sold a few short blocks and completes along with individual components to some very aggressive and happy customers i had one 4 years ago need a oil pump (jims) it would puke out the breather after sitting a day but that is the only one i had with a issue. they have since changed oil pumps and os yet heard or had a problem with them

We as well feel that those are very capable powerplants.
I believe that the inexpensive pricing leads folks to believe that they are in the same catagory as a CCI engine. Not so.

I think the cost of a complete Ultima 96 incher is around $3200.00 bucks currently.
You can't buy an 80 inch MOCO EVO for that right now.
That 96 with a good carb and header will give you 100 hp no problem.

Here's my monthly update. I took everyone's advice and went ahead and ordered the Ultima 96" shortblock. The cam it came with is a Midwest 520(at least what it say's on the box), but not installed. I still plan on going with my heads and carb listed above. I calculated my compression ration and its near 10.3:1 with the milled SE chamber and flat tops.
My cam choices are:
Andrew's EV27 with 1.75 rockers
Midwest 520
Woods 6 with 1.75 rockers
Woods 6H
If anyone has a cam that will work better with my setup, I would sure consider it. I plan on using Vance and Hines staggered short shorts. It does already come with an oil pump installed. All it needs is the breather gear, cam, nose cone, ignition, and top end.
Also it comes with some cheap looking lifter blocks and no lifters. Would I be better off using my Jim's lifters and lifter blocks? Sorry for all the questions. I am still new to the V-Twin scene. Thanks for all the help.

I have a low mileage Red Shift 575 cam. It made 102 hp and 106 tq in a 96 with 10.3 compression, thunderheader and G carb.
Let me know if you are interested in the cam.
