hd.road.king wants to know Dino or Syn?
Question V&H Fuelpak vs Power Commander III ??

I traded off my 07' Road King for a 08' Street Glide last Fall. I kept my Vance & Hines FuelPak EFI controller and my BigShot true duals exhaust system along with a stage 1 intake kit.

I was assuming that everything would be transferable to the 08' since the motor remained the same. I found out that the only item still compatible is the True Duals HD changed the connectors on the ECM and rendered my FuelPak useless. They also changed the intake to the 50mm, so I am going with the Arlen Ness Big Sucker for my intake.

I figured that as long as I need to upgrade the EFI controller that I would look into the Power Commander. I can see some nice advantages to the Power Commander as far as firmware upgrades and more user control. Could I please get some input from users of these systems as to which might be better for my Glide?

Thanks,
Mike

PowerCommander is a good tool plus it is user friendly, however the good model of the PCIII elimanates the 02 sensors and in my opinion the 02 sensors are a good thing. You need to make up your own mind if you want to run them or not so do a search on 02 sensors here, get a bag of chips, a soda, and read a mass of information with opinions.

FWIW, the power commander website does not list that it's out for the 08 Touring bikes yet.

HI.

As far as I know that PCII is not available for the 2008 tour bikes as of yet.

The big change with the 2008 touring bikes is the move to Electric throttle(Throttle by wire) and that is why the connectors are different, it is a new computer system.
Vance and Hines does have a Fuelpak for the 2008 touring bikes, and is the best choice for a stage one.
No Dyno time needed, and no wires to tap into or cut, as you know, it is a simple "plug and Play" unit.
The new Fuelpak has the new Version 13 programing, and from those I have talk to that have it, they love it.

Question Thanks for the input!

The new PCIII's are now available for the 08' touring bikes, there are however only 8 maps available as of today. My set up is not covered yet.

I will be running V&H Big Shot true duals along with a Ness Big Sucker air, the bike still has the stock ECM setting. I have contacted a shop in WI to see if they have the maps available.

I have a question on the PC-III, I was reading on the installation page and they recommend the o2 eliminators. What are most of the users doing with this? As far as leaving the sensors in the exhaust or removing them and plugging the fitting?

I am really swaying towards the PCIII just for the adjustability and firware upgrades. The Fuelpak needed to be sent back to V&H for this.

Mike

Well, if you want adjustablitiy, then you should think about geeting a SERT. It will still use the O2 sensors, and is completely adjustable.
You will need to have it dyno tuned either way, you might as well get the better one of the two.

Lightbulb Thanks JT

I have done some reading on those SERT's but unless I misunderstood what I was reading it can only be used on 1 bike. It must pick up a serial number or something which only allows it to be used with that bike. Although I might be reading that wrong.

I had the V&H FuelPak on my 07' Road King but we put on quite a few miles on her last year and we liked the Street Glides so we traded. Then I found out HD made some changes to the 08' touring editions, rendering my FuelPak useless along with my FD stage 1 air. The FuelPak will be my second choice, I had zero complaints on mine. I just wish that V&H allowed for a USB so that you could do firmware upgrades without needing to send it to V&H.

I do like the fact that V&H already has the mapping for my set up already listed. PC said that they are adding new 08's each week and to keep checking. I contacted a shop in WI to see if they might have a map for my set up yet.

Hi.

Yes, the SERT marries itself to the bikes VIN number in the computer, so one SERT pre bike, and it is usless for another one.

I think really it is overkill for a stage one. But if you want ot do more mods down the road, you have the tool to tune it in.

I still think the Fuelpak is more what you would be needing.

Question One other question?

My dealer last year had noticed my bike had a different exhaust on it, he said that I had voided the warranty, go figure I would think that HD would need to prove that there was a direct connection between the two. But I am sure they have a way better legal department than I do.

Needless to say the new Glide is getting the additions just as soon as my wrenches are not too cold to touch! Sure not waiting for 3 years to get the bike the way I want it.

Does the HD ECM pick up any type of code to notify a HD tech that a different add on was used? The reason that I am asking is I had a Ford F250 diesel and guy's were replacing the chips out. The swapped chips somehow left a code identifying this to the tech. Ford was re-nigging on some warranty issues.

Thanks,
Mike

I guess a great selling point when the bike goes up for sale
