Anyone do a 96 to a 103?
Was speaking with Dan Baisley the other day going over my proposed mild bagger build (07 Street Glide) and was going to go with the 96, milled with a 030 cometic (sp?) head gasket for a 9:8 compression, his "superstock" headwork and a Andrews 37.
To make a long story short, he suggested among other things, why not consider boring out the cyc. same size as a 95 build, SE cast pistons and viola, a tried and true 103 build. All things considered, for not much more $$$ a potential torque monster. I noted that I want the power where I ride (2K-4.5K). He thought that combination (103) with the right cam would be a great build i.e. stock starting and running reliability with a nice bump in power. When I was considering my 96, we agreed the 37 would be the right cam and I didn't inquire (yet) what cam on the 103 he'd suggest. Maybe still the 37? Others?

Just finished a build to 103 on my 07 Ultra, used my stock heads ported by BigBoyz, SE spring kit, woods 7H, SE Flat top pistons , D&D FatCats S/E A/C, K&N filter and bored existing jugs, so far sounds awesome, as soon as the weather shapes up a little so I can tune it I can give a you a better Idea on how it runs.

Thanks Bob. How recommended the woods cam. Did you consider other options?

Baisley is one of the very best. If you are fortunate enough to be able to afford him then I would follow his "recipe" exactly and you will not be disappointed.
Going to 103" is a no-brainer for your build. Spending several hundred more and going to a 107" from RP or Axtell is an additinal cost option you could talk to Dan about.

I spent a lot of time researching cams, liked the short duration high lift of the 7H, has a nice slightly lopey idle, my second and almost my first choice was HQ firebrand 575 lift, first off had a hell of a time to actually get to talk to Doug, busy time of the year and all, when I did talk to him he started talking about 220 lbs cranking pressure and compression releases, turned me off a bit although I would like to try a set in my 06 Dyna at some point down the road. As for the woods cams being noisy, yes, they do have some noise, not objectionalble to me at this point but I may find out otherwise on a 90 degree day, I am set up at 10.1 to compression and the throttle response is excellent, it is still a wait and see thing for me yet, still have to actually get some miles on and see what I think from there.

Just did 2 of these. With our Stage III Vortex heads, Bob Wood TW-66 chain cam and D&D Fatcat, with OE t/body tuned with a PCIIIUSB, they marked 113 hp and 127 ft/lbs @ 10.2 CR. Dyno chart can be seen on our tuners site.(see links page on our site) That is a ton of power for the dollar spent.

The temp in this neck of the woods that time of year can be as low as -15, 20 f. Or can be 35-40 f too.
In the dyno room is another story.
What brings that question up?

We have our dyno, computers, various guages, tools, etc. in a dedicated room away from the rest of the service area, so things can resemble some kind of organization.
